I mentioned this book "What no one else is saying about online poker" in a couple of posts before, yet didn't hear much feed back about it. Although it's not about teaching you how to play poker, I found it very interesting and accurate about the facts while playing online poker. I also felt it answered many of the threads I read on this forum. It is rated 8th out of 330 online poker books being sold on Amazon. Has anyone read this yet? And if so, what did you think?

Jumped on Amazon to see if this book had any reviews and it does not. I really don't need to read a book to know the perils of online poker, especially the opportunity for collusion, etc.

Based on the write up on Amazon, it explains that online poker is a donk fest - one only needs to play once to know that...

Guess you must be one of the 12% in that select lucky group. Also find it interesting that people can make assumptions, and give opinions, without reading the damn thing.

Amazon Editorial Reviews said:
Book Description
With the renewed interest in the WSOP and Texas Hold-Em poker, online poker rooms have become the easiest way for the average player to get in the game. Online poker generates billions of dollars a year. Millions are playing and millions are lost every day. When playing poker live, an experienced player coupled with a little luck is a winning hand. But when playing online, rampant cheating and endless numbers of bad players make the luck factor the deciding factor. This book will let you understand the two different games being played, comparing live play to online play. What No One Else Is Saying About Online Pokerhighlights how the internet has changed the game into a free for all that could bring even the most experienced professional poker player to his knees, begging for mercy. What No One Else Is Saying About Online Poker is the tell all book about online poker. Topics: . Research the ins and outs of the industry and how the internet has changed the game forever. . Understand why online poker rooms are spending millions to detect cheating. . Learn the different types of cheating taking place in today's online poker rooms and how to recognize it. . Uncover the truths and rumored myths of online poker. . Learn exactly where online poker rooms and the players stand concerning the new bill passed into law on October 13,2006:"The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006". . Arm yourself with the knowledge to compete and discover if you can even afford trying. Author Carl Varrone, a successful business owner and poker enthusiast began his research for What No One Else Is Saying About Online Pokerin 1998. His curriculum included reading numerous books and firsthand experiences in casino poker rooms learning to master the game. When poker rooms started popping up on the internet, Varrone found himself playing online every chance he could. Through his years of playing and research he was compelled to write this book. Every person playing online poker or considering it should learn from his experiences before getting in on the action.

I'll first admit that I haven't actually read the book. Now, after reading the editorial review of the book above, I can honestly say that I never will. You can't judge a 144 page book by it's cover, but you can decided whether or not to spend $20 on something where the editorial review alone makes it seem like a 144 page "it's rigged" post.

The general tone of the review appears to lean towards the negativity and (yes, without reading the damn thing) the review make it seem like the author is just making huge cautionary warnings about online play, etc. It mentions discussion about millions being lost everyday. How much discussion does it go into about those players that are actually winning money online? Does it talk about the effort they've put in to improving their games and being profitable? Does it tell the reader that to be a winning player you actually have to give a damn and make an effort? What about the player that wins one pot with 72offsuit after calling an all-in for all his cash and sucking out to win, then goes on to get his AA cracked, lose his entire stack, and start making posts at poker forums about how online poker is rigged? Does it tell that guy to get a clue and pick up a book? Now maybe I'm being harsh with my statements above, but IMO, no profitable poker players are going to run out and buy what appears to be a big rant/conspiracy theory. Not exactly a great marketing tactic, IMO. My perception of the book may be wrong, but guess what...Perception IS reality.

Without knowing for sure or even caring enough to try and find out, I'd actually venture to guess that the author is a losing player, at least online, and is now looking to recoup his money by telling everyone how dangerous it is. Now that may be one of the best ideas ever.

Surely endless numbers of bad players make skill the deciding factor.

Another version could be -

'What people are not saying about poker'

Its great fun, brings together many different people from many walks of life who would probably never even met let alone spoke to but now count as good friends.

Teaches and empowers people at different levels, can give hours of fun at a low cost (even sometimes free).
Can help people who had no ambition something to aim towards and improve themselves.

The Amazon Editorial seems to me suggest the book is talking about what everyone else is saying about poker.
Look around the forums (surely the authors best researching grounds IMO) and many posts will cover the same ground, bad beats, rigged etc...

Luck v skill, skill v luck,
chicken or egg, egg or chicken ?

I find the camaraderie with people all over the world a major bonus... I have friends in canada, UK, germany, Spain and all over the US.... and I still don't know the names of the people that live behind me :)

I'll not be reading this book - instead I might pick up Gordon's in an effort to improve my play. I don't need to listen to the bad beat whinners and the online poker is rigged bunch. I keep a spreadsheet - I know I'm a profitable player :) Didn't realize I was in such an elite group tho

Wow can't believe what I'm reading here. The book wasn't at all about rigged sites, or conspiracy. In fact the book recommends sticking to tournaments, and satellites to get into them. Because of all the software support players can use online, playing cash games online become a much harder task. He said sites are not rigged and are in fact investing millions trying to stop software programs, and bots. The book is a good read for the novice player to understand exactly what he is playing against. There are tons of bad players online, and software support lets them keep the playing field even for longer periods of time which in turn make cash games much harder to overcome. Along with the amount of money most players can risk, they're forced to play against players with deep pockets that can eventually wear you down. Why he suggests cash games for live play.

Well quads, as the others stated, the author and his marketing dudes or whatever took a perfectly aim shot at their own foot with that editorial review. That duck wont hunt.

Quads,

Can you tell us that you have read the book?

If so, make us a Cliff Notes version.

Got a point there crancko. Guess it's all about marketing. Regardless I thought it was pretty good.

News Flash !
California Gold Rush, - 1848-1849

Millions of dollars have been taken out of California recently! Not by the gold miners, but by those merchants supplying those miners with tools, food and clothing.

The only difference I see these days in the Poker Boom, is that the food clothing and tools has been replaced with books, articles, and some knowledge.
