How many buy-ins is enough per stake?
Starting from 2nl, to 40knl let's say, there are 15 stakes then. How many buyins would you use for every stake and why?

You can copy paste this form and post the numbers.

I don't play cash tables above NL25 so I can't say anything about them. About tables NL2 - NL25 I think that it is possible to play thin BRM, it is always easier to replenish it, these are not such big sums. So having 10 stacks is quite enough to be honest.

But I'd be interested to see other opinions on this.

First of all there are two reasonable ways to play poker:

1) By bankroll
2) By budget

In order to play by bankroll you need to be a winning player at least at the lowest limit, so not everyone can do it. But if this is your chosen method, you should be prepared to deposit at least $60 and more ideal $100 to get started with 2NL. How you then set the numbers to move up and down is largely dependent on, how tolerant you are of swings. But somewhere between 30-50 BI is reasonable. At high stakes probably even 100 BIs, because edges are expected to be very thin. It can be reasonable to use a system of "shot taking" as well. Maybe you define, that anything above $100 can be used for "shots" at 5NL, and so on and so forth.

If you are playing by budget, then you set a weekly or monthly deposit limit and stick to that. You can play, whatever you want, but if the money is gone, you have to wait until the next week or month to play again. And of course it needs to be an amount, you can afford to lose, and is also ok with losing. Your goal is to have fun, so you cant be super results oriented.

Considering the current trends in online poker, 30 buyins per limit is enough, although it will be quite aggressive bankroll management, 50 buyins is already almost a tight approach)

Most are recreation players, so this resonates and is a sound strategy.

If you put aside an amount per week you are willing to wave bye bye to...then you can play without pressure and expectation.

The absolute worst thing to do is take a bankroll onto a table you can't really afford to lose. You are going to fold way too much and play Nitty...and lose!

I don't think this is an appropriate way to approach limits. Not everyone has the same skill level and there may be hard walls where you just won't be profitable no matter how many buy-ins you put aside at a particular level. Variance is supposed to be this kind of fog that may temporarily make losing players overconfident and winning players doubt their abilities to win. But then behind the variance are players who, just like you, are in that same fog. The higher you go, the more difficult it gets to get out of that fog.
