It really depends on the type of game. Like anyone said previously, in the starting phase of a tournament i sometimes watch something visual but mostly there is silence or music (especially while playing cashgames)

I always have the tv on in the background when I am playing online. The game is just too boring otherwise. Boredom leads to tilt. Tilt leads to playing bad.

I prefer to listen to music instead of watching movies. They help with boredom a bit since movies aren't my cup of tea.

I play exclusively on-line...so there can be boring moments where side entertainment is needed. However, this depends on what is going on in a given session. Sometimes I play a few tourneys on different sites simultaneously which means I need to concentrate and is this instance, I do not even like music playing in the background.

If I am just on a single site and not multi-tabling, then I will have various things going on. For starters the TV is always on in the background but I can tune this out easily. Normally I have some ambient, fairly chilled music going on as well. But I will also play various other things on my laptop. Some are content I have stored on my computer (various subjects) but then like others I turn to You Tube.

Funnily enough, in recent weeks I have been watching a few quiz shows, some of the most arduous quiz shows on television. Its really stimulating to see how your own knowledge holds up against some very smart minds...and you learn countless things in the process. I will load up an entire series and over the course of many days complete the episodes and see who triumphs. It fits really well with playing poker.

That said, if any serious or complicated hand is developing, I just click the pause button!

The funny thing is when I listen to this station in the car sometimes it reminds me of Poker because I have clocked so many hours with these songs playing poker.

It is necessary to receive maximum pleasure from life. I'm also the one who plays poker and manages to watch TV or listen to music. If the game becomes more intense and responsible, then just reduce the sound on TV

I have a pump me up playlist that I listen to sometimes. I also sometimes have PokerGo videos playing for background noise and when the game is slow I can look up and see what the pros are doing.

Of course this is down to personal preference. Still, one can think of playing poker as similar to reading or studying for school. Doing well at poker requires discipline and focus like anything else so probably best to minimize unnecessary sensory inputs. I would say definitely no to TV or other visual tasks, and studies have indicated and if you want to listen to music, it should be instrumental only as lyrics tend to distract from the task at hand.

I have a bad habit of letting myself wander online sometimes while playing MTT's. This is something I would've never done when I first began to play online. Back then I felt there was always something to be watching on the tables I was playing on... regardless of whether or not I was in a hand at the time. So much information... setting up opportunities toexploit & captialize on other player's tendancies & weaknesses. If I'm not watching, I'm missing out on lots!

Today I focus on training myself to watch every single action I'm able to and am regularly popping up the Hand Replayer feature to replay streets on previous hands to pick apart the other players actions, their potential thinking, etc. etc.

ZERO TV for me while playing & rarely listen to music while playing either.

I recently purchased a laptop with a larger screen so I occassionally have netflix on the side while playing a couple of tournaments. I have found it helpful while overcoming the slow boring early stages of some tournaments. It kind of prevents me from playing too loose early.

What do people watch while playing if anything?

I'll listen to mysic if playing online but never at the casino.

In principle, any deal when you play poker you the way. If you play a few tables and gets boring but you can watch TV or listen to music helps me.

Light distraction in a form of watching something, listening something or doing something is perfect but sometimes the enjoyment from that overcomes and is too much distraction. The balance is so hard to find and make steady, it's a skill that cannot be learned.

This is definitely holding me back, otherwise I believe I would be the GOAT of poker... all aspects of poker and in all stakes
