Both hands are speculative hands. You want to hit the flush with A8s. At 77 you want to hit three of a kind. 77 I would also play in middle position while I would only play A8s in late position. If I called with A8s and the flop brings an ace with no chance of the flush it can quickly become a headache hand. If I am in late position I can better assess whether someone else has an ace too. I can also control the pot better. You don't take such a big risk when you play A8s in position. Against a raise I would throw away A8s, while with 77 I would still call a raise. The reason is simple. Hitting three of a kind is far more likely than hitting the flush. In addition, you are often dominated when you play A8s against a raise. Often your opponent has an ace with a better kicker. 77 is easier to play. Either you hit three of a kind or you can throw the hand away. Both hands can develop into great hands. Overall, I would play 77 more often than A8s because with 77 I hit three of a kind more often than with A8s the flush.

Although the 77 has 53.42% win, depending on the situation I still prefer the A8s

A8s or 77

I would choose starting hand 77. For several reasons:
1. It still has a 53% to 47% advantage preflop.
2. This is a ready hand, and in order for A8 to catch a pair with a probability of 47%, you need as many as all 5 cards, while with 77 you can safely bet with almost any flop.
Therefore, I prefer 77, plus A8s are not connectors and this almost eliminates straight, although their suited gives a high probability of a flush. 89 suited even to me seems to be preferable in this situation against 77 than A8 suited.

Acho que depende mto da situação do torneio, dos vilões, pilhas ...
Mas eu prefiro 77, pq vc dificilmente vai cometer erros, no máximo perder para um cooler.

For me, 77 is better to start with.
If I catch my set with a pair I could win a great pot, especially when the board is safe and someone else get a pair, two pares or anything else. Sometimes this hand can win by itself at the showdown (when I don't get anything good on the board). Another good thing is, I can easily fold it when I see some action and I have nothing to play on the flop and there is no need to go further. So I don't lose much in those cases.
There are some problems with playing A8s. Your main change for winning is catching a flush but it's a miserable chance. Well, cathing a set with 77 is miserable as well, I would say, but when you get a flush it's more obvious for other players that you have this. In some cases, all you get is just a few folds, not a big pot, so sometimes it's a bit hard to win much. But what you should be scared about is that you can lose much with your A8s when you don't get a flush and just got a pair of A's because of your weak kicker (when someone else get AK, AQ or something like that).
Most of time I would raise with A8s only from late positions like BTN, CO to steal the blinds.

cash or tournament? I'd rather have 77 in both cash games and in tournaments as it's a slight favorite versus A8s

It depends on number of BB, position and number of players in the table.
I would say that both are quite weak in general but to take one, I stay with 77.

Hello. I bet on A8s. This hand appeals to me more. With pocket 77s in hand, you can hardly count on gain. The emphasis will have to be placed on the board and the opponent's preflop actions. With an ace you can count on an overpair, although with an eight we will often be behind the opponent. Also suited cards give a good chance of making a flush. So sevens are decently inferior to A8s.

Of course, I will choose 77, because even preflop all-in they have a probability of winning against A8s about 53/47. And in order to catch a pair for A8s with a probability of 50%, all 5 cards on the table are needed, and with 77, teyu already has a ready-made combination on hand. A8s is generally considered an unplayable hand.

My friend, although 77 have a slight advantage over A8s, I prefer to have the A8s, because it is a blockade and have conditions to play with equity the Post flop. Depending on the situation the 77 becomes weak if you have 2 more people involved in the flop, unless you can get nuts.
What is a better starting hand , A 8 suited or a pair of 77??
