I believe that in order to win, you need to play all the time, keep an eye on your opponents, and try to use every convenient situation.

This happens on ACR too, and I absolutely believe sitting out should mean auto folding their hand and forfeiting the pot. ACR disagrees though.

Give them a couple of levels just in case of connection problems then share the remaining chips with the remaining players at the table. On could happen on freerolls though.

I would even go a step further, Players who do that ALWAYS, just regging and sitting out, should be banned from the poker site for ever. Nothing more annoying then being forced to play a hand every 6 seconds. You go to a 9 handed MTT and play heads-up from the beginning. When I want to play heads-up, there are games for that!
Me myself have regged for tournaments as well and forgot about it, so I was sitting out, or really had connection problems. But this happens occasionally. I guess there are pages on the internet like "how to earn money on the internet for free", that suggest this "STRATEGY"
But the point is, that sites are happy about these players, otherwise they would have to fill up the tournaments by themselves.:drunken_s

Yep I think Stars works better that they will go out if they sit out. But remember, it's an easy chance when people sit out to pick up blinds. I've been in quite a few situations where BB is sitting out and I'm SB. Everyone else with fold to me leaving me just to "call" to pick up the pot. If I was on the button or cutoff, I would be raising to steal the blinds in these cases.

Thanks all or the replies.

Note that I have no problem with people sitting out. As others have said it’s free ante and blinds. My issue is winning hands while sitting out.

I think some people have figured out how many chips they need to have a chance to cash while sitting out. Many times I have seen people go all in the first number of hands with junk and once they luckily triple up or so, they then sit out the rest of the tournament. Especially noticeable in freerolls.

I’m glad pokerstars plays the hand as dead. I will have to play there more.

Thanks again.

Hey all. I’m playing on 888 poker and during their freerolls there are a lot of people “sitting out”. Once there was just me and one other playing with 7 “sitting out”. The problem I have is when the blinds get large enough to force them all in, they often win and keep going. I feel if you aren’t there your hand should be dead and you are not able to win the pot. It seems there are a large number of people who register with no intent to play and hope to luck into the cash It happens often that they do cash at the lower end.

Thoughts?
ya i yjink sitting out should only be 10 minutes and then your kicked its total bs i agree!

AFAIK, PokerStars is the only site that not only displays when a player is sitting out, but also folds their hands. In certain rare circumstances, the hand may play. I think if the dead hand is in the BB with exactly the amount of one BB remaining, the hand plays if there are no raisers.

I play on 888, PartyPoker, ACR, BetOnline, and Sportsbetting. Only PP doesn't show when a stack is dead money, but auto folds them even to limps. All the others let the dead stacks play if there is no raise, or if they are all in.

I prefer the PS approach. I should think everyone would. The most annoying part of sitters is the change in the table dynamic. That is the only problem that exists across the board.

888 will fold the hand of someone sitting out only if they face a raise. So if the person sitting out is in the big blind and everyone else limps in, the hand of the sitting out person will be live until they face a raise. When they get Anted or Blinded all-in, the hand gets played and sometimes they get lucky.

It is annoying, but you can also use it to your advantage by stealing blinds if the opportunity arises.

Two levels would be fair to anyone with connectivity problems in freerolls

I like the sitouters, free chips!
I do appreciate if the site tells me the player folded, or is sitting out.

when i play at some house games, we start religiously at 8pm. and some friends only arrive like 45 min later. we do sit them out, putting their blinds. and i think its anadvatage because our blinds go slow, so when they get there they havent lost that many chips

I agree, online tournaments should have the same rules as live ones and if you are not there when the hand is dealt in a live game (at least at my local casino) your hand is mucked, even if you are the BB. The sitters are not going to go away but how we deal with them can change.

I think that if they are sitting out that their hand should be folded or not be able to be played just like if you were at the casino playing at a table if your not there you don’t get cards. That way it makes people want to play their hands because if your sitting out you don’t get cards you don’t get blind lucky on a random hand

You guys honestly make it sound like some sort of "sitting out" conspiracy.

As if there is an advantage to sitting out for the player sitting out.

There is no reason why online tournaments should have the same rules as live ones.

If that were true then you can't be on your phone while playing....

There are certain unique qualities to online and live play respectively.

ex. online there is never an accidental turn or river card before action is complete.

And there are plenty more examples.

But I think the real nature of the software function is because of the tenuous nature of many players' internet connections. And the real money aspect of losing your connection - yes always when your opponent shoves on you preflop and you have AA. LOL

What do you think of that as a reason for the "sit out" feature and how can it be improved ?

Good luck !

These players do not allow others to play and support themselves in a Fig game,it's a shame that they win...

It happens alot at ACR too, inactive players who are forced all in win alot but eventually they lose. But inactives are a good thing also because you can feed your stack off of them by just betting the minimum bet preflop and they fold unless forced all in with less than the BB.

I also posted about this. It’s annoying especially if you catch some good cards in the start and you have a chance to grow your stack and all u get is 35$ in chips. They need to come up with a better solution.
