Hey guys,
Any of you tried playing with the amount of chips displayed in BBs ?
I did lately and found it very interesting. Betting, calling or raising using amounts of BBs actually made me look at the game from a different perspective.
If you have tried it, I'd like some insight about it. Thank you.

For me, in relation to the game it doesn't change much.

But in the final stretch, when I want to do a quick conversion of the stack, I usually use.

I like it for quickly checking how many blinds someone has without having to do the math but I don't really like having it always on.

It kind of messes with my mind seeing my chip stack drop so drastically in terms of bb's in tournaments when the levels go up VS seeing my chip stack stay the same in chips. lol.

I always view my stack in BBs, it's better to adjust strategies or make decisions when the amount of BBs is changed.

All poker disciplines have mandatory bets. You can't refuse them. The most commonly used blinds are “blind” bets: Big Blind (BB) and Small Blind (SB). BB defense is said when a player fights with a late position (cut-off, button) or with a small blind. Calling or re-raising against middle and early positions is not considered a defense. The big blind is the most losing position in poker. It is impossible to bring it to a plus. In tournaments, there is no classic defense throughout the entire event. Universal tables of hands cannot be compiled. Decisions to call in the BB or re-raise depend on the stage of the game, the current stack, observations and statistics on the opponent.

I think most "serious" poker players play online in BB display instead of chip display; it is easier to quickly calculate based off of effective stacks when BB display is already on...

With that being said, I actually play in chip display usually, but my reasoning might be a bit uncommon. I use online as practice for live poker (despite how different they are from another sometimes) and live poker obviously has actual chips.

To get into the habit of efficiently converting chips into Big Blinds mentally, I play online with chips display on - but I'm constantly converting certain things to BBs in my head. Basically, I don't want to play live poker and then feel different now that I don't have a Big Blind display in front of me :D

Hi Friend.

When I first started playing poker I didn't know how to use that, I didn't see my chips in the BB and yet, maybe just dumb luck, I made it to the Top 40 in a 1/10 buy-in tournament with 2000 players. and I got my second place in the Poker Freeroll. $100, so when I started to see my chips in BB, I understood a lot how my opponents played, their strategies and I have achieved a lot until then, so I can say that it is better to see them that way.

For me, that eye opening moment came when I read Moshman's SNG book when it came out. And its really funny because I was really just a cash game player who just played Stud and Holdem and never interested in tourns and definitely not SNGs but that book really started me thinking about BBs differently.

Its amazing all the aids folks have at their disposal to help them learn the games like seeing their stacks in BBs, a program will tell you what you have so you can't misread your hand, colored decks, and hand histories to new name a few things, Its crazy what people have instead of showing up to a casino and not knowing what you're doing vs learning online these days.

Yes, it's certainly convenient. When your stack and your opponent's stacks are in the blinds, it saves time and you don't have to count your chips.
I don't use it much myself, though. I'd better get started.

For me particularly, playing in the BB makes me see better how my stack is, even more so when the blinds are already high

In the rooms where I play, I have already set it up for all tournaments to start with BB, I think it makes it much easier to 3bet, or call, or go all-in.

Hey S3mper,
Thanks for the reply. I totally agree with you on te first part. I found it very convenient to see how many BBs everyone has without the math headache. But I couldn't play with the option on. It kind of confused me and made my stack look a lot less than it is in the final stages, so I just left it alone. But I tried it a few days ago in a $4.40 knockout tourney and in a CC freeroll and ended up doing great. I started getting used to it and even feel that it makes the game a little easier which doesn't mean that it would be the case for everyone anyway... GL.

It was very confusing to me and just stopped trying. But I went back to it lately and realized exactly what you said. It makes it easier to see what everyone has and to call raises or even 3bet when you start thinking in terms of BBs.

Yeah, I actually never liked it for so long, it confused me. But when I tried again, I found it easier and even did good on 2 tourneys so far...

Definitely true man. Since the "poker boom" and the appearance of online poker, the game has been taken to a level live poker has never known. It has become a whole new science. Statistics provided by the sites gave birth to concepts never heard before in live poker...

In the past, showing a stack in BB seemed strange to me. But once I tried it a few times, there was no going back. It makes no difference in cash games, but in tournaments it is essential. This is how professional players play in online tournaments. It's just faster and easier for you to see what your situation is at the table.
