Well, I'm not quite there yet.

I haven't played virtual chips for a very long time, I think 2 million, but I used them a long time ago when I played home games.

No, I was impressed with the four hundred million plus chip count (I should say reeling) and I really enjoy this thread. Some will know on PS (and another site I used to play) in the nose bleed section of play money there can be billion chip hands...

I will always be indebted to play money. I learnt the game with play chips and I have yet to play a single hand of live poker with cards in hand. Which is why I always counter the cliched comment 'no one takes play money seriously'.

At this point I play infrequently but just a few weeks ago fired up an MTT with several hundred players and promptly took first place. Not a red cent involved but still a genuine sense of accomplishment.

Play money transfers used to be very easy - then they weren't. The rules have changed over the years, but I think you can still transfer if you are both sitting on the same table, at the same time.

I had 4 million, but I lost a large part playing spins, I think I better not play spins with real money, something tells me that I am not a good player.

My play money tends to go on 5 card draw tables. You may have seen me. I'm that player that sits down, raises, then discards all cards. You can just keep adding more play money from the cashier when you go broke.

I agree it has it's uses but once you move to real money the play money just becomes a distraction for a laugh. And I don't feel bad playing like a donk, after all when I started out on play money the all inners did my head in, so I'm just giving back.

I sometimes play with play money on Stars, mostly because I miss being able to play for real money on there. Also, I have a couple friends who will play on there from time to time.

It's nothing compared to a couple people here, but it's not bad for goofing around. Most of it was made at the low stakes games.

I will also jump into the 5 card draw games, but I really enjoy them more when they are real money. You can't find real money draw games online, to my knowledge, on any of the US facing sites these days. They used to have them on the merge network.

I decided to see how easy it would be to make 40M in two weeks.

I started with the 22.7M I had two weeks ago. As of today, my balance is 101.1M. So, a little more than 78.4 million in two weeks. Essentially all the hands were played at 6-max cash tables. Wow, the play is bad. The million dollar buy-in games are a very slight bit better than the lower ones, but you still have plenty of people just open-shoving hands. And, slight bit better is really a very slight improvement. There are so many leaks and problems with their play that even running horribly (more than 17 buy-ins under EV), you can still show an easy profit.

I got a leaderboard bonus at some point. So, I only won ~53.7M at the tables. Still, 40M is definitely doable in a couple weeks. And, with as soft as the lower games are, you can get up to the 200k-1M games in a very short period of time.

I'm one of those people who believe that you can spend your luck so I prefer to not spend them at playmoney.

Yes, such a balance is impressive! I started playing for play money a very long time! In one of the first tournaments for 10k players, I took 8th place and received 67k game chips and it really motivated me to play for real money!

It's completely opposite for me. Last time I've played it, I've almost trippled up my playmoney bankroll. But I wish it was a thing in poker

But is that you using up your luck or is it just because you are so much better than the average play money player? The games are so weak that you don't really need to get lucky to make tons of money playing in them. I mean in many cases the players will just hand you their whole stack. All you need to do is hit a hand. It's one of those things where the players are playing so bad that is easy to feel like you're running really really good. In my example sample size, I ran 14 million play chips under my expected value when we got all in, but I still managed to be up like 60 million total. So even though I used up a bunch of 'unlucky', I still managed to like quintuple up my bank roll.

As for the op of this thread, I started playing on PokerStars for play chips about 2 months ago and have worked my way up to about 2 million, but I am just playing it for fun, learning and experience. Live poker is still my go-to over online and I don't really see the interest in collecting play chips that have no monetary value. I guess there is probably stronger competition at higher play chip stakes than the lower ones, but other than that, I don't see a ton of incentive to move up in stakes too highly. The higher stake you play, the less significant the "free" 15,000 chips every 4 hours means (for whatever it is worth).

Building up your play chips might be good practice for bankroll management though.

Yes, but the fact is many play poker for the fun of it. They do not want to risk hard earned cash or retirement income. Others have stressful lives and don't want to add to that fretting over whether their jacks will hold.

That's the point incessantly missed on these boards...the idea a huge number of people actually play poker simply for the fun of it. You or I might not engage in that regularly but it is an actual thing -one practice sight alone has 1.3+ million members of which tens of thousands play on any given day.

Play money Tempest is very fun.

I couldn't get myself to play playchip games. I just don't see the point of it. fwiw, I actually play 'for fun' and always have. It's never been about the money for me.... but without money being involved, the game isn't the game.

Yes, and completely understand why some are not interested and appreciate the comments about 2nl and 5nl. The only point I make is that many (in fact several million) enjoy and are motivated to play without money stakes.

I play the play money games when emptied my bankroll. That seems to happen a lot to me.

Do they have headsup cash? (err.. I mean HU playcash). If so, what's the biggest stakes?

I'm curious because seeing Mtl there with 1/2 Billion.... why not go for 1 Billion ?
