With the partial culmination of the global pandemic, the increase in new poker players has stagnated. Player traffic does not exceed 240k in all existing rooms. In 2021, it increased by 21%, with professional players obtaining a 30% return on their profits. But the poker boom is not reflected this year. The current rooms did not know how to attract (advertising and promotions) enough mass to make this Game more attractive. Only GG Poker was able to implement promotions for new players, but it hasn't been enough to feed the sea of new fish. This is dangerous with the passage of time given that as the flow of good players increases. You will have more luck or be more prepared to face other sharks

I can see this being an issue but there is alot more reasons fora decline too. Goverment regulations and place not allowing people to play does hurt the game as well. You can also look at the Russian issue be blocked by poker stars and others. This is not a small countey and taking that chunk of players out of the pool does not help. It may actually hurt the game long term. Why would they wnat to play after its over if they can get blocked again or have there funds blocked. While I would not be surprised at a drop now that the pandemic lockdowns has ended but there alot more going on in the word that contributs to this.

Thanks for the statistics. I haven't heard anything about it this year. Poker rooms need a new breath.

I think the reason for this is that many players are thinking of traveling to live tournaments due to the pandemic lockdown, rooms should implement promotions that incentivize players to return to online poker

partypoker's revenue grew by 47% in 2020

pokerstars grew by 23%, but their market share has been declining for several years in a row

888poker's revenue has grown for the first time in five years, the structure of 888 Holding's revenue by year can be seen in the picture below. Note how the share of online poker (highlighted in orange) stagnated or declined from the beginning of the 2010s right up to the pandemic itself:

poker revenues take up only a small part, so promotions to attract players, in addition to those that exist, poker rooms will not happen, one promotion costs a couple of million dollars, those that occur are clearly related to casino revenues, so it's better for them to attract people to play casino than to play poker

there are statistics on countries, there are countries from which the poker room received more income, this is also one of the components of the advertising policy of poker rooms

not every year you can have the increase in players as it was in this pandemic, think that in the whole world there were many, many people who were locked up in their houses with nothing else to do and that is why many new ones joined players, and life returning to normal those people must work and carry out their daily activities without time for the game.

Sportsbetting seems to be all the rage now and that is what the rooms seem to be concentrating their efforts on

Due to the pandemic, many players who used to play online now play in casinos in person, I personally believe that playing in a casino or personally is better to play online than online because there may be some kind of inconvenience with the software that handles this type of table and websites.:(

Thats interesting, didn't know it was this bad... like Luvepoker said, i guess its due to governments laws and the marketing of the game... so im not surprised that pokerstars and the others platforms are reaching for the sport bets and casinos in general to survive

I don't see a decline in the online population, we have many more poker sites blocking Russian players on some sites, and the curious who entered during the pandemic (which is very common)

Sports betting in the US has become very easy. What used to be illegal is now coming into the open. I doubt there has been growth, but it is now being reported. I no longer need to use a bookie like i had to 20 years ago.

Poker in casinos seems to be ok. Online will grow if the government continues to open/allow more regulated sites.

Volume in online poker has generally declined since the Cris Moneymaker induced boom almost 20 years ago. So there is nothing new about this, and the 2020 boom caused by lockdowns was just a short term reversal of the long term trend. But as Verdann say, poker is not very important for the total revenue of online gambling sites, so the sites are almost certainly going to survive :)

98% of my friends who tried to play poker refused it and said it is bored and random game.
They refusing to play even freerolls.
I think it is all about trends, people become more lazy and lazy day by day :)

there will always be new players and it takes them at least 6 months to get better, therefor you always have fish in the rooms, but live poker is 10x softer than the relatively rough online games, especially cash

I think that new players who came during the pandemic have had a rethinking about poker. A young player always thinks it's easy to win money at poker. For a new player with no skill, poker is unprofitable 99 times out of 100.

Poker rooms do everything for you to spend at the casino and on sports betting, because that's where they take our money.

no one forces us to go there, people voluntarily go there, I can bet on sports to watch a match, for example, I won't go to the casino, I'm disgusted by it, everyone decides how to lose money on poker, casino or sports,

It is possible that this really happens, but I believe it will not be that fast, and for sure the level of players will increase, this will force game rooms to create new satisfactory promotions to delight new players.

I think most people just don't have time to devote long hours to poker. So as a result the poker rooms have promotions with spin and gos or sportsbetting that don't require a large time commitment.
