Back in 2001 where online poker started to be popular, was that time reliable or were the platforms rigged? Has online poker always been reliable?

But I can imagine that it caused a lot of frustration in players when they lost connection because someone was on the phone lol.

Well you must be (so) wrong then cause in 2001 internet pretty much did it's first steps and back then social media almost didn't exist at all (apart from maybe some forums perhaps and so on) ...

To be fair to @Fernando Lopes , 2001 was about the time that sites like UltimateBet and pokerstars were popping up and gaining traction. It didn't technically explode in popularity until 2004 like @najisami said.

Well first online Rom was in 1998. (Planet poker)
partypoker and Pokerstars starts in 2001 but Paradise Poker was the big site.
Big boom was moneymaker in 2003 and WPT startes in TV shows

Like others said I don't think online poker was too popular in 2001, at least not in our country (I'm also from brazil). But I started to play a couple years after 2001, in 2006. In my opinion online poker was reliable in 2006 as it is now. If I don't trust the rooms, I would not play online poker. There were cases of cheating (like Absolute Poker superuser case) and others online poker scandals (like Full Tilt) at that time. But unfortunately we still see cases of online poker cheating still happening nowadays.

I had an old account, one of my first at Paradise Poker, this was back in the early 2000s. Paradise Poker were in direct competition with both Pokerstars and party poker that opened up around the same time. Paradise joined Sportingbet after a few years and they focused on their sportsbook instead,

Hey guys, no one mentioned the first site I signed up to, I think it started some time before paradise, party and stars. It's pacific poker and it's still going, but under a different name : 888poker.

Phil Helmuth won his first WSOP bracelet in 1989. Poker has always been popular where I live & some of these earlier WSOP main events were televised.
Online poker was BOOMING in 2005 and by 2008 it was amazing!

When I started online poker (2007) it felt much safer then vs. how it feels now.

Yes, well poker gained global popularity thanks to the internet, so many new players that maybe never heard of WSOP or Helmuth suddenly could try out this "new game" . I have to admit that I never heard of Helmuth until I started playing online , but I live in Europe and poker and gambling was restricted in my country.

Like all applications, they are always exposed to attacks without prior warning. For example, in pokerstars a few years ago I went through similar problems of cyber attacks, but over time these problems have been solved, in addition, applications and online poker rooms always maintain Safe your data and your money, personally I have never had a bad experience regarding these issues.
