Well, I think like every sport out there, being about your body or your mind, it can be both.
I love playing soccer as a hobby, but that does not change the fact that it is a real job for thousands of athlets.
I think the analogy fits well for esports alike.
Every single person starts playing a FPS game, for example, for fun. If they become good enough, why not turn into a professional player?

For me its just a hobby.. I tryed to study etc bit life/poker balance isn't adjusted for me at this moment. So I try to read a bit and play for fun with some results..

Never cashed out though.. I win some, loose others and let the money there to play a few more and higher tournaments..
