This depends on you - if you just play for fun i consider it as a hobby, if you invest a lot of time into learning and practicing, reading blogs, books etc and try to get an edge over 95% of the player the hobby can turn into a hobby with a nice side income which is not a bad thing imo :)
All the best :)

Totally agree with you, I hope turn my hobby in something profitable in the future that is the reason I spent 70% of my time studying.

It's up to you.

If you consider it a hobby anyway, just don’t overdo it. However, if you consider it a money-making opportunity, get the most out of yourself, learn and analyze to improve.

So the choice is yours.

If you are playing for fun, it is for sure a hobby. The hobby is a thing which you do to feel pleasure and if you are considering of playing poker as something exciting thing, that means that this is your hobby. On the other hand, if you are the person on the other side - only thinks for the money or how profit you will have or how much money you will loose - it is not.:)

Hobby or job

I’d like to think most of us play as a hobby and dream of getting lucky and making it to massive final table one day and cashing in, if your not enjoying it and losing money then take a break and come back to it later

It is def a hobby for me at this point. Poker used to be a source of income for me but those days have passed. I just don't play as much with kids and a job to make it anything more than a hobby.

I fully support the view that poker is a game of skill. You will never be able to win at a distance if you do not understand the mathematics, probabilities, weaknesses of competitors and profitable opportunities.

And here's my definition of luck: when you win in a situation where you have less chance of winning (<50%). Luck does not cause me such positive emotions as winning thanks to experience and skill. That's why I don't play games like roulette or blackjack in a casino. You won here only because you were lucky this time. Do not consider luck your success, you need to strive for excellence. I think that poker can be a hobby to some extent!

do you think online poker is a hobby or a form of earning for you?

Most of us started in this great game by watching someone close to you play it (father, uncle, friends, etc) then onec you got hooked the world of big tournaments like wsop, WPT, etc opens to you and you start watching lives and replay games of this and started wondering.... maybe i could be one of them... and then the hobbie becomes a goal.

I haven't reached yet, but as many of us here, we are on the way :)

For me, poker sometimes brings more income than the main job. But in my country both the level of income and life is quite low. At the same time, the mentality does not allow me to quit work and become a professional player. Often the very opposite happens with the players ....

poker is a sport...

More than a hobby, poker has already become a sport of mental skills, as various techniques are used to deceive the opponent.
Nowadays, for my part, I cannot implement it constantly, but rather practical when I have time, due to labor issues.:):D:);)

For me, poker is like an exciting game, and only then as a small income. I started playing poker just with interest. But I see from this you can also have pocket money for expenses.

It is what it is

Anyone who tells you they are making a "living" off of "online poker" is either a complete liar, or "works" for a site and has some kind of "in". Otherwise, it's a COMPLETE GAME OF LUCK! TOTAL BINGO GAME(especially the way most people play online). Play "any two" to a PRE FLOP ALL IN with a "GUESSER BET" and see how it comes out huh/...HMMMM, what do you call that?

Hobby.

I do expect to earn a bit of money playing, but more money goes out the door on poker books, etc. than comes in from playing. However, the low per-host cost makes it a much more cost-effective hobby than many other options.

It is both . Ofcourse the ultimate goal is to earn money , not penies , and ofcourse not to have many losses and destroyed bankrolls . As long as you have BRM , fan can continue , you can go on playing poker as a hobby , waiting for the time to hit a big payday someday , or become better step by step , so as to achieve a better score and winning rate one day :)
