Over 10 years have dabbled with online poker. I play cash, tournament and sit and go. Playing cash can make 3BB per hour average. Tournament lose about 10% of cash every 30 hours of game time. Sit and go similar lose 10% of cash.

The reason I post is I enjoy the game but as a gamble to make money close to a waste of time. Cash making 60 cents per hour on 20nl and that's playing well. Are most players now playing more for fun and not to make money? Is cash games only way now? Been out of the loop online wise for a while. Thanks.

If you win rate is 3BB per hundred, I don't you can expect to win any money in the game, you will lose to rake.

Players are probably slightly better, as more information is out and younger people are getting into the game with more information they can absorb, hard to say though. Feels the same too me at the limits I play.

On which site are you playing? I play 87000 hands mtt till 20$ on pokerstars and still have to deposit

I play on pokerstars and 888 Poker. Since I wrote this post in january, I have actually played some more STTs mainly 9-man SnGs, and I do now have a small profit in those like maybe a 10% ROI or so. So I do think, those games can be profitable, but obviously the winrate is still much more capped, than it is in MTTs. They are good practice though, since you get to play a lot of shorthanded poker with ICM pressure, once the first 3-4 people have busted.

For example, I manage to earn with poker, albeit a little money, but still.
I like playing MTT tournaments more, in which there is a chance to compete for good prize money.:)

Im in a process of grinding out on the freerolls, until i build up a decent bankroll and learn to play much better!

With alot of studying and a little help from a few others, i think 2021 is definitely on the cards to be a huge year!

From my experience at sit and go if you win three- four games this is enough , if you cotinue to play yhe chance of losing are very high.

Depending on your level of play, if you play well, then it's really possible to get a plus.

Definitely personally if ... you occupy several alternatives ... a good bankrol. For the type of game you practice ... concentration ... relaxation and your very well defined strategy ... inalar by the nose to expel by the voice. Three times ... to control the variances that we will have throughout THE day ...

It all boils down to one thing, you need to ask yourself "What do I want from playing Poker?"
If it is a living, then you have to WORK hard, study your game play, and Practice, Practice, Practice. Notice I Capitalised WORK! because that is what it becomes, It stops being a fun game and becomes a vocation, a job, a means of making money!

I did all that when I was self employed and I can tell you that to be successful in any business, you have to work long hours, If I had put in 60 hours a week into my business, I was slacking, my average week was 80 hours or more and most of the time I would not take a day off for months.

I am now retired and love the free time to do what I want!, when I want! and Poker is a pleasing pastime, nothing more! Some times I may not play for weeks, other than the occasional free-roll, and when I decide to concentrate on playing more often I can play for hours each day, trying to build my bank-roll to top another hurdle.

When the first lock-down started during this pandemic I had a small bank-roll of $209 all from small stakes and free-rolls, I played well over the last year to break the $300 barrier, and now I have $427, not enough to live off, but enough to double my bank-roll and keep on playing for FUN!
That is why I choose to PLAY!, and not WORK! at the game.

When the fun Stops, STOP!

Dude, in 2021, you can make as much money from games as from a regular office job, the main thing is to know which games to use.

Many people think that poker is a game of chance in which the winnings depend on chance. This card game is put on a par with games in bookmakers and casinos, given that only the owners of poker rooms can make money playing cards.
But this is not the case. Poker is a game with mathematical probabilities, so a professional player can not only earn his living, but also provide for his entire family. You must stick to these qualities - perseverance, resistance to stress, communication skills, ability to learn, and you may earn money.:)

Not all players naturally have the ability to make consistent poker money. One player can go from a beginner to an average regular, while another may never be able to make money from poker. Making money online poker is not as easy as it seems. Even the best players don't win every time they sit down. You constantly need to improve your skills, choose the most profitable games and the most profitable time.

You can make a lot of money from poker because it is not a game of chance.

Not all players win poker money, to win money in online poker you need to constantly improve your strategies, and remember that it is a game of gamble.

I believe that only less than 1% of players are making profits from online poker in the long run. So if you aren't a pro better stick with the idea playing for fun.

I think that the vast majority play to earn money, I don't think they do it for fun, there must be players who do, but they are the fewest.

The situation in the poker industry is getting more and more difficult, and there are fewer and fewer fish. Compared to tournaments with a large luck component, cash can give you more stable income.

I hope to win enough to help me augment my earnings. I had to retire due to illness, so I hope poker will help me make the money I need.

Most players started playing poker for the fun of the game. Money is just how we keep score at the end. Its also not an easy game to play and is every changing. There is money to be made for sure but the question would be are you good enough to make that much. There is also the fact it takes money to win money. Playing 20NL and winning 20BB an hour is a nice profit but to live on an as hourly wage is not happening in most areas of the world. Winning a tournament is nice but to make a living you made need to play $20 or higher tournament to make a livings.

As for me, I play the micros. I also play for the love of the game.
