This isn't an exciting answer, but I think it's the correct one. Over the long term, the game that's going to be the most profitable for you will be the one you spend the most time studying and learning. A passion for it will also be required.

But you also have to take your lifestyle into account. If you don't regularly have 6-8 hour blocks of time to play consecutively, then tournaments are out.

And bankroll matters. MTT's especially can be tough without a proper bankroll. It's common to play tens of tournaments without a significant cash. Your bankroll has to be able to absorb that.

The most profitable mtt, but it takes a lot of time, as for sit n go and cash, profitability is less here, but less time is needed.

What would you say out of cash and sit n go as I don’t particularly have the 6-8 hour time available?

In my opinion, profitable and fast-growing are spin-and-gos. However, these are the most dangerous games. I think that for the most part these are failed games, but it is still possible to make a profit. The key is to see when to stop, when you feel pressured.
Multi-table tournaments take a very long time to play.

Excellent answer. For a small bankroll cash games and SnGs are most suitable in my opinion, because a 6-8 hour time commitment is simply not worth it, if you can only afford to play for a dollar at a time. And in top of that game selection will also be to limited on most sites. So in my opinion MTTs require a starting bankroll of at least 500$.

The other factor to consider is, that the action in SnGs is more capped than in the other formats these days. So even if you get really good at SnGs, there is a limit to, how much you can move up, because games are simply not running. So if you are going to go the tournament way, you will eventually need to get into MTTs for the highest possible profit. But SnGs can be a great way to practice for that and especially for the final table, where the big prices are distributed.

So for me the main choise is between tournaments and cash games, and SnGs are really just a sub-format of tournaments. And as for which of those to choose, I completely agree, that it totally depends on personal preference. If you are not enjoying a certain game format, then you will not be able to have success, because it will quickly feel just like "another job", and for most people the hourly "salary" will not be worth it.

Thank you really good information, I think I’m going to focus on SnG’s, I prefer a tournament play style however don’t have time to play mtt’s so hopefully get experience in that setting with SnG’s and then if build a good enough bankroll and have spare time on some days will do mtt’s when built a bankroll where I can afford to have a few goes

I agree w/sng's for steady profit. PLO-8 is paying pretty good. I believe pot-limit games go quicker than all-in one's, imo. I wish more players played pot-limit hold'em. Back in the "long, long-ago" when I could play at PS I used to tear up the $.05/.10 there. Nobody likes to play it, though.

I think it all depends of what type of game do you feel more comfortable playing. I always thought that cash games were more profitable than MTTs or SNGs, but I just don't like to play NLH cash games, so, for me MTT's are more profitable.
