What are you babbling about? There are better ways to get to your "75 posts". I Play a lot of live poker in FL. If you truly have a question, I can surely answer it.

If you are talking to Wrapper, that response was to my post about the vote coming up in Florida.

The question now is what are you babbling about and did you know there was Amendment to vote on tomorrow in your State?

I live in the UK and think it is ridiculous that in some countries online poker is restricted and also the fact that winnings are taxed in some countries.

I agree with the first part of your statement, but not the last. The fact that some countries tax winnings is a good sign. It shows that the country is progressive enough to embrace online poker and look at it as any other profession that can be taxed (ie: doctor, lawyer, online gambler).

Winnings from gambling in the US is taxable and must be reported. There are different thresholds for the reporting. For instance, you must report anything over $1200 in winnings on slot machines, $600 for horse racing, and $5000 or more in poker tournaments.

If your winnings come from live casinos or private poker rooms, they are required by law to report winnings that break the threshold. For unregulated offshore online poker sites, well, little to no reporting at all.

Florida's Amendment 3 has passed, as has Amendment 13, which will close dog tracks by 2020. With both amendments passing, don't be surprised if most card rooms at dog tracks close down, since they can't continue to run dog races and they can't expand their gaming without approval of 60% of the voters statewide. Poker at Seminole casinos would be unaffected.

Yeah unfortunately with the amendments that passed yesterday I can't see any changes coming to online poker in Florida for a long long time. Live poker's now gonna be a lot more difficult outside of Indian casinos as well.

Disagree with you regarding tax on poker winnings you are taxed all your working life on your earnings then when retired you are taxed on your earnings, you pay tax on goods when you purchase them.I am firmly in the belief that you pay enough tax and poker winnings should not be taxed in any country.

Since you live in the UK, I can understand your frustration about taxes. In the US, however, it is not all that bad. Not all States have a tax on purchased goods (Oregon comes to mind). And our income taxes are not nearly as bad as some other countries.

But earnings are earnings. You can't get around that. If you win a Milly online or take down a wsop event for $15 million in prize money, darn tooting you will be paying taxes on it. And it don't matter if you are retired or not -- income is income.

I live in Florida, and I watch and play WPT. but cannot join because of Florida. I have tried to research this and have not found an exact answer, but it has to do with Florida sweepstakes law. Gambling is illegal in Florida except on Indian properties. There is something in the sweepstake law that forbids wpt membership. How you can join for 4 separate months, I have not figured that out, so I just play the free part. Our politicians do not care about changing laws to benefit the people unless there is a financial gain for them. Just have to wait until Florida changes their laws. You can write your congressman to change the laws, good luck with that. Sorry I could not be of more help, but I am in the same boat. I would like to join opt but have been waiting for years and no hope for the near future.
