How often do you see players talking smack on the tables about how bad other players play? I been playing non stop the past year and i found out some funny things. Players who put down other players play i find make the same mistakes and more. Players that say they are good but never win are my favorite ones and the topic. If you think you are a good poker player but you lose all the time, Then most likely your are not a good poker player. Are you that player or do you know that no matter how good you are there is always a way to lose. It took me a long while to learn not to tell ppl that im a good player cause why would you. Bad beats shouldnt hurt you if you got a bankroll and a good head on ya.

Exactly! Especially I do not like people giving advices when nobody asked for. Everyone just playing their own style and if you win with worst cards then your opponent so it means it means it is you putting yourself in the risk. Then I also noticed when people blaming your game after bad beat and starts to tilt next hands with really scrap cards. Poker is poker it is game of bluff ,skills and luck factors.

"If you think you are good, you're not".

Funnily enough, you have done precisely what you have criticized others for doing - talked down to them and told them they are no good. The irony seems a little lost.

Did I miss something?

This is a pretty ironic topic given that not only are 99% of poker players losing players, but that even those that are winning somehow over the long term still spend most of the time losing their hands.

Hmmm, sounds like they are taunting or provoking the people in order to deviate their focus, might be a strategy if you think about it. That's why I don't really pay attention to chat, and of course I don't recommend you to do that either. :)

That is what I miss about the days I played backrooms and older casinos with regs I knew. We would talk smack, but we never crossed lines with people unless we knew them. There was a Navy guy that I used to banter with that seemed offensive, but I was in the Corps and we were actually laughing the whole time. We had someone jump one of us, I honestly do not remember which, but the whole table shut him up. Said we were the military equivalent of Abbot and Costello and we kept the table from being boring. Now, the majority of online table talk seems offensive even for a Marine.

I often see players on other forums who say they are good at the game. Then I look at their stats on the website and I really understand fish. And I also don’t like it when they start accusing the rsc and the poker room of changing them all the time.
Understanding the psychology of the game of poker will help you manage your emotions and learn to overcome your psychological mistakes. Need to think more positively, okay bro?:)

Perhaps these players are a distraction. There are many types of psychological pressure. A lot of good players just piss off other players in this way.

They talk a lot. So I turned off the chat. I'm not interested in it at all. Now on PokerStars added these emoticons, too, many use. Just annoying no use.

If on monthly basis you get an overal good paycheck , then you are good , and then anyone else can say his bu****t and you just wear your earmuffs , but if you don't.......... go read some poker strategy , take a break from poker , as simple as that , it's not a mathematical polynomial equation .

When players give a lesson I think they're making a very big mistake. You are teaching them how you think. It's like showing your cards too often. People can use it against you.

If a player keeps saying that another player at the table plays badly, he probably also plays badly.
Because he should think it is good that he has worse players than him at the table, because being a good player, it would be easier for him to face those players who supposedly play badly.

Personally, I enjoy chatting at the right times, when a player is not in a hand. I compliment good plays and encourage small stacks to come back. For me, online poker is about learning. If I see that a player doesn't like to chat, I don't bother them.

I agree with this. I've said the same thing before myself. I've often seen players criticizing the play of others at the table, basically heckling them. They gloat and ridicule their opponents when they win a hand. They mock other players for the way they played a hand or criticize their hand selection. The thing is that you might see them criticize someone for playing a hand like Q-9. Then you will see the heckler turn right around and play J-7. That tells me that this is just a tactic. Believe it or not, it works. Not on everybody. But you can see players tighten up and start playing different because they're worried about looking bad, especially if they lose a hand to the heckler. What ends up happening is that players start shutting down, going into their shells and getting out this player's way, giving him room to run over the table.

I agree with everything except the good players part. Let's not assume that these are good players. I personally think good players are more likely to shut up and let their game speak for itself. But you are absolutely right about the psychological pressure that heckling can put on a player.

I used to see a lot of this. While it's different from the "everybody sucks at poker but me" player trash talking the whole table, it's still somewhat inappropriate. Here we're talking about someone who may comment on a specific play from a player in one specific hand. Still it's almost always unwelcomed and unappreciated, including by other players at the table. I used say something like "Shhh. Let them play how they want to play. This is not the time or place for a poker lesson".

Hello. To talk others down is demoralizing. I personally turn player chat off when a player starts chatting. Use that option and it will block the chatters. It's an ugly kind of thing in poker. Ask Phil Helmuth. :)

I have no idea if players are talking smack because I have chat disabled.

I think being good at poker means being slightly better than average. If you're slightly better than average, you can build a stake in 50/50 games. Also, in small tourneys, you can often finish in the money just by playing conservatively and not going all-in constantly.

When you play online i think ignoring chat is very important. Not losing focus and not putting emotion. Most of the time you can not have friendly conversation, because only bunch of haters and wannabe pros communicate there.

As for live play... Well i can not stand the stupid banter not to mention someone explaining to fish what they did wrong. Absolutely insane to give tips to guy who is donating money. Good thing most of the tips are crap.

This loser Daiku has been chirping me and spamming throwables at me on 888 for over a week, really starting to get to me.

Usually these players think they are better than everyone else and use there own custom solver as a result. Tbh, I am kinda one of these players, not really at same time.

Also, sometimes mistakes are not mistakes, like we have AI basically rewriting the book/GTO theory, where the AI finds the true GTO plays for each player types, so there custom solvers, might actually be optimum, and many things these players do, are honestly not bad plays. Some are next level, some are bad.

However, some of these players are just complete degens too lol.
