Hello everyone,

I live in Texas, and Texas law currently does not allow online gambling for real money, but I really would like to play online for real money to improve my skills. What can I do in order to play real money online?? One of my friends says that I can use VPN to hide my real IP address, but is it considered as illegal per TX's law???

I don't want to get any troubles so not sure what to do here.... Any advice?

Why not just play on ACR? I certainly wouldnt take a chance on using a VPN. That would be a sure recipe for getting banned and your funds confiscated.

You can play poker at Texas casinos: Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino & Hotel, Abby Jay Card House, 52 Social Poker Club and Rounders Poker Room.

it's better to wait for such gambling to be allowed in your country and you should not violate and listen to friends because the responsibility is very big for violating such a policy, I think it's better to wait and endure

People from Texas can play on the same offshore / unregulated sites, as most other americans can play on. These include ACR, Betonline, Global Poker, ignition and so on and so forth. So there is no real problem. Just a bit of inconvenience getting money in and out most likely using some sort of online vallet or crypto currency.

You would get more out of playing against playchipers while taking the game serious and having a strategy or playing against a simulator/bots while learning different strategies. And the people you play at low levels online will be the same folks you play at play chip tables anyway that will give you all the same nonsensical draws and suckouts but you can learn to deal with them for nothing.

You'll also be playing against those same playchippers live @ $1/2 nl holdem regardless of where you play so I again would suggest learning a solid game and learning discipline and how to deal with tilt for little or nothing.

But if you need the thrill of playing for money because "you won't improve" your skills without money involved then a few of the posters have given you options. Good luck either way.

VPN is a bad option. I believe sites can detect this and you might be able to play for awhile (I'm not sure as I have no experience but have heard that some do) but when it comes to attempt to withdraw your funds it might be very difficult (again, I'm not sure as I have no experience).

There's a few sites that Americans are playing on (WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD... it is not just people from USA playing on theses sites... some of them are quite popular and have large numbers of people playing on them).
The biggest and best is WPN (WinningPokerNetwork) - the most popular sites on that network are A.C.R. (AmericasCardRoom), BlackChipPoker, TruePoker.
ie.
AmericasCardRoom
BlackChipPoker
SportsBetting
Bovada
Betonline

Cardschat might have links to these sites that you can go through.

I have also heard (from many) that it is quite simple to deposit & withdraw funds from your account via Bitcoin/e-wallet (like Coinbase).
I haven't done this but I do know that many here on the Cardschat forum have and it is a popular, common, efficient, convenient, & QUICK process.

Cardschat used to hold daily freerolls on AmericasCardRoom and also games on SportsBetting and Betonline (also on Bovada/bodog but that was years ago).

They hold some big Tournament series on A.C.R. Currently the OSS (Online Super Series) Feb.6th to 28th

if your state prohibits online gambling, then it is logical to assume that the use of VPN is a circumvention of the law and in fact it is not difficult to determine where the user comes from in the Internet, even using VPN, in the end your Internet provider will report that you are breaking the law

It's not because in texas gambling places are prohibited, that on the internet it is. You can just download an online poker App and be happy. Now if you want to play live poker, create a group of friends and have a barbecue!

I know there are players playing on ACR from Texas. I believe you can sign up for Global Poker since the only states that are prohibited on Global Poker ares Washington and Idaho.

I'm here, as well, in this oxymoronic state. I play on ACR, BetOnline, and Everygame, once in a while. There's a gray area for online poker here. I believe the "law" is as long as it's offshore and not in the continental US or in North America you can play online in Texas. At least the sites that are available.
Playing online in the U.S. for real $ is a gamble anyway, imo. Not trying to discourage just relating a compassionate "buyer-beware" statement. GL.

The CC Home Game on pokerstars is a great place for Americans in no-fun-or-freedom of choice-allowed states (and a few others in persecuted (dumb-law) countries) to play. Weeknights you'll see many familiar CC Yank faces/names. And even though it's playing just for fun (and CC kudos), you'll really learn a lot that will help immensely when you get to the real felt.

Texas, the home of hold 'em doesn't allow on-line gambling. Unreal.

State regulation is weird, but at least you wont have this problem everywhere in your country
