I have some experience to tilt some loose-aggressive players by trapping them with my premium cards, but I have not found any content about how to do that through the chatbox.

No. I generally am happy with my game and if the chat is not amenable, I turn close it. It never helps to get frustrated when you are trying to win a tourney.

Verbal attacks towards other players online is not a suitable approach in this game.

You have no way of knowing if your opponent even has his chat turned on so you might be wasting your breath, and the use of abusive language could lead to banning you from the games.

Only thing that tilts me nowdays is a situation where I know that I could have played better.

I never have tilted though I just usually ignore any messages sent my way when playing

Did they deserve to pay attiention to them? Of course, they didn't. I think there's no one, who did not try to behave like you in this situation. But as we play more and more, it will be easier to handle these situations. And because of your words, I do think that you are so good at it and it was just a one-time mistake.
My last time when I was bullied I did not paid attention to him, and it was even more frustrating cause he did reach a great position. The fun fact was I reached a better one.
One person called me 'Eurovisiondonk' from here. I am sure it was just pure emoition, and he would not do this again, but it hurted me (my ps name is EurovisionHu that's where the word-game from).
I was fish, shark etc. even sometimes at low-stackes they are ruder and try to involve family. I did not turn them off from chat, cause they are free to write anything, maybe next time they 'll not do this, who knows.

I don't turn chatbox off, it is a great way to get tells, and give away wrong tells. As Doyle Bronson said, poker is not a game, it is a war, and I use every possible weapon that is available

normally I don't care and if someone is playing and hassle I just ignore

Usually it goes like this:
1. Some donkey badbeats me
2. I insult him in the chat
3. He get's tilted
4. He call my next shove with junk...
5. He bad beats me again
6. I insult him in the chat again

I don't mind with this never. First, because I don't who is this person, and he doesn't know who I am. So, why feel offended for someone who is just a name in the screen. Second, because every time it happened to me, it was after I won a large amount of chips of the moron. It's always the same. You are a bad player, an idiot, you just had luck, etc. He is already in tilt, it's not my problem.

I really turn off chat and focus on concentrating on the game. I can't give any chance distracting myself with talk nonsense

usually you can turn your chat off and not ever have to worry about it.Check your settings on whatever site you play I bet there is that option.

If someone in chat is really abusive I will turn it off or block them. I have been followed around before and they would talk junk in chat whatever table I was playing. Weird.
It did however help me win 400.00 on Omaha Hi/Lo cash table, the table was ganging up on me talking junk. They thought they had me how I played my hands. Just because you saw I had only low one time, doesn't mean I only go for low. lol

It doesnt tilt me but it lets me know they are tilting and then I keep a close eye on them and hope for a nut hand were I can get it all in on them.

poker is a combination of many things and psychological control.
You need to learn to control your psychological to know how to deal with these situations

To be honest Yes, only because I am a moron and allowed someone else's words to effect me. There is no logic behind this only emotion. So pretty dumb really. Especially for a game based on Math.

Never really bothered me live so not sure wtf is up with that - Also depends on the kind of day I have had. generally I hide chat now simply because I play too many tables at a time to bother with it.

Only time I see it is on sites like chico network or PS that pop up a comment. Allows me to recognize when someone is being a child online otherwise I don't pay attention till I am down to a single table. In the past I would engage with people that were being abusive now I just shrug and play my game.

I also remember back in '05 or maybe '06 some online player (no idea what his name is or if he is doing well now or not) won a satty online to a live game. He won that live game, netting close to 80k. Interviewer asked him what advice would you give someone who wants to get good at poker online? What I remember from his answer was "Ignore chat".

Should have listened to that all these years lol but again I am a little hard headed as indicated above

Most sites I have been on give you a option to turn chat off, If I am in a real serious turney I usually have chat off, players always talk shit and insult on chat, I myself have blasted people on chat and I am quite good at it. If you are not ready to box stay out of the ring.

In the last few weeks, some friends of my other rivals began to annoy me for the chat, the smartest thing was to block the chat, if that affects you.
But it doesn't affect me at all, I just kept playing, and what they wrote in the chat made me laugh, they told me things like fish, donk, you don't know how to play, you're just lucky, etc, in that league I ended up in the 4 place.

Agree here if take a screenshot of the personal insults and send it to the poker support team if you are offended then that player can lose the chat facility or have their account closed and be banned from the site depending on the circumstances involved.
Too many people get penalties and opportunities lost due to being rude and personal verbal attacks when it is not necessary.

My style of play seems to piss a lot of people off and there is always at least one person in chat that needs to shit talk and it doesn't make me tilt at all. In fact, I find I play better when someone is insulting me in chat.

No, I don't ever let people's chats affect my game. Furthermore, I will call out people who criticize others play on chat.
You'll have to pay me royalties, but my patented anti tilt method is to join a freeroll and go all in every hand. That way, I can avoid risk and possibly irritate people by playing like a donk. Feel free to use it but u gotta pay me

It's funny how this 'table talk' issue seems to come up periodically. William Kassouf's initial showing at the WSOP a few years ago sparked some support until it registered, days later, what a crushing bore and time waster he was (those familiar with the EPT already knew this). Then he blew what credibility he had left being caught 'pocketing' his friends chips.

My experience is very few are adept at on-line table talk. They are not quick thinking enough to pull something smart and cutting out of the air, type and post it in the chat box. So invariably all that comes across is someone is bitter, petty or nasty. And, due to this as others have fully noted, many will have their chat boxes off.

Which is a shame because once in a while really funny and supportive interactions can take place. Just recently at a table, bigger stacks helped smaller stacks weather the bubble storm by stalling for each other whilst joking all the way. Once over a few said it was the best table they had sat at for a long time. Sadly an infrequent occurrence.

Whether right or wrong the impression I have is players who use (negative) table talk on-line are likely unpleasant period - it isn't a 'tool in the box' but rather a character trait. Something people feel like they can get away with online (especially) whilst using screen names. No different than anyone posting spiteful posts into forums which allow or even foster such dialogue.

This is re-enforced by the fact in live tournaments as afar as I can see (WSOP, EPT etc,) aggressive table talk has virtually disappeared. People study the game and look for any edge they can - if players thought table talk was useful they would employ it, but they don't.

It was a tactic used when the game was less sophisticated so maybe it once fit the general atmosphere. In the present day I believe most regard aggressive table talk simply as a player behaving badly rather than smartly.

As an indian people use to insult me but I ignored them and my advice to you is you to ignore them for your own good.

I rarely pay attention to chat messages, sometimes I just turn it off so as not to distract me from the game when inappropriate players start to write.

Okay, maybe I was a little bit unclear, I didn't mean death threats, personal insults etc. I just want to get more tools to my "poker toolbox". The only reason for me to be in this forum is just improving my game. There is chatbox feature, so I want to learn to use that to get an edge against other people.

I have experienced great results against weaker players saying always "thanks" and "nice hand" everytime I get lucky against them and they tilt. Those texts are already there so I just need to click with my mouse and it will send it. I think that it will be unfair to ban me from the site because of that?

I have no idea how saying 'nice hand' could tilt someone Actually, I dont look at chatbox often, but if anyone tries to insult me with chat box, I turn it off.

I do the opposite of trying to wind players up. I’m a fella but I use a girl’s profile picture.
I do this because trash talkers are less likely to go for me and I do complement the 2 players after me so the don’t go for blood in a trap.

I have also enabled chat during the game. When someone uses trash talk, I immediately block their chat.
I think those who offend others in chat are mainly losers who pour their frustration that way.

I was just reading this yesterday and came across the worst trash talker ever last night.
Brazilians were all lady boys and then they noticed I am Irish.
They tried so hard to insult me with all the usual stuff ie, ginger , potato etc and I just agreed and said yes I’ve big red Irish balls.
I got a nice chunk of their chips too before a ladyboy got the rest

First time - I'd say its nice, that opp said 'nh'. Second time I'd feel a little suspicious. Third time - I'd think that poker site is rigged. After fourth time - I'll be sure about it, and never come back. Opponent's chat wouldnt have matter.

I experience fewer chats than years ago, lets say 2007-2011, seems like the players nowadays don't like to chat anymore in online poker. Maybe this is also because Brasil and Russia and other players don't speak English so often, thats the only language allowed in the chat box. And when I am multitabling, i have no time for chatting anyway, so I see almost nothing and cannot tilt, which is a good thing.

Sometimes,a joke or a little caustic comment can ease the tension.I think if you tilt by chat comments you have a mental disadvantage and should get yourself together before continuing playing poker,or you LL loose money ��.

In some poker rooms you can disable the chatbox and chatbubble and you will not have to bother while playing. The entries should not be dealt with anyway, just disturb.
Verbal attack benefits you because he is shocked by what you can take advantage of.

I think for some players it's a definite tactic, to abuse players into disliking them.
The table will subconsciously want to beat the 'bully' and will start to play looser and try to teach the bully a lesson. Don't always presume that the guy that seems to be raging is actually upset/tilting.

I just ignore the chat usually or chuckle to myself... I'm totally guilty of calling people donkeys though after they make awful plays and get lucky. Usually after getting outdrawn too many times in a session/losing every coinflip, I take my frustration out on the next guy who stacks me in a weird way.
