It's good for the game in all actuality. I would rather be at a table full of people who play this way than a table full of nits that only open premium hands.
Look at it this way, most of the time most people miss the Flop, Now add to that the fact that when some people hit the flop, like the maniac you mentioned, they are still behind the strong range of a superior player and you have potential to rake in major profit
