Does anyone play this? I think it's only in the US. Bars have "poker nights". Texas holdem. Our place gets 20-40 people. No money on the line. It's kinda like a live freeroll. And they let my 8 year old daughter play. We have a great time!

I had never heard of it until reading this thread but it sounds interesting. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they have it here in my area. Their website is https://www.worldtavernpoker.com/ for anyone interested in it.

Not in my area either. Looks to be going strong on the east coast though.

Can you win money?

Not locally. They do points. And points get you to the big tourney in Vegas, where there is quite a bit of money for grabs. I guess that is why it isn't outright illegal.
No buy in or anything. Bars get extra business and folks drinking. In my area there is one at least 5 nights a week. You probably can start one and be TD. The bar does pay the TD to run the tournaments.

We have a local league where I play at that has around 10 bars and has a game every night of the week. You earn points when you make it to the final table, that get you into a free roll every 3 months. First prize is a $400 seat into any WSOPC event of your choosing + $200 and pays 9 spots. It's a freeze out with 20K starting stacks, 20 min. blinds and good structure. They also have a wsop Main event staking portion where we pay $20 a month (if you want to be a part of it) your best results from each week in the regular games funnel in to the staking league. Each year based on your position those that make it into the top 25 get a percentage stake in the people that go to the Main event. You can win a seat. in a 2 tournament freeze out, top places on average out of the two tournaments, and it pays based upon total money earned for prize pool either a entry into main event $10,000 + travel $2,500 or multiple WSOPC Main Event seats at $1875 + travel. Each night of the week the games are free to play and each game you can win a $50 bar tab plus a voucher worth $65 to the daily tournaments and a free buffet. All free, and fun.

They are only in the Memphis area. There is another league that is close to the same in the Nashville area but I'm in Tennessee so only ones I know about are local. I'll have to look at the website for the world tavern league I've never played in it or heard of it till now.

I played a few of these nights in North Carolina, it was a donk fest. Plus, we all had to rotate dealing. I hate dealing while playing. I’ll stick to casinos.
