I’m a dual rate at a local casino. Today was my day off, but I heard about an incident that occurred today during a tournament that has me baffled. This is what happened as far as I understand it:

-A player from the alternate list is called to his seat
-Chips are put in the player’s seat and player sits at the table
-Player plays one hand and busts an opponent
- Player says to the tournament director “I thought you called me for a live game. I never signed up for the tournament.”

In my opinion this is the fault of the tournament director for not verifying the player. That being said…. Does anyone have ANY idea of how the situation SHOULD have been handled following the player’s revelation? I do not know what the outcome was.

So does that mean he didn't even pay the tourney entry fee? Wow what a mess. I think I'd void his hand and give the other dude his chips back.

Strange
I think since player did not sign up for the tournament then remove him.
The player he bust should be given back his chips. Any other player in that hand that list chips should be given back the chips
Since player won tournament chips he didn’t sign up for he doesn’t win any chips. Assign him to a cash table game. He wins nothing and loses nothing
Simple solution

A mistake happened, but in my opinion, the tournament can be harmed, so in my opinion, his entry can not go back. Reforce your system to alternates so that the players be responsable for knowing about what king of table they are sitting.

Yeah, for me, though no fault of his own, he has to be removed from the tourney and the hand void. The integrity of the tourney is tarnished otherwise. Can you imagine being the other player that got busted, only to find out the player that busted you, never paid the tourney fee? I'd be kicking off.

The person who screwed the list up should be fired. How do you put people on the list as alternates if they didn't buy in?

Undo the hand. It never happened.

What madness the truth that if I think that those responsible are the organizers of the tournament. The truth is that these errors are not very casual.

I wonder if the busted player had already got up and left the table? You usually dont get second chances in poker tourneys so he/she may have already been out the door.

It is only fair that the hand be negated, restoring the chips lost back to those players. This is incredibly unusual...stuff happens.
