I was wondering if there was a standard in tipping the dealers when you cash in a tourney? I"ve gotten mixed answers on this subject and was hoping they could be cleared up.
My first question is at what stage should you tip, like if Its a 150 dollar game and you min cash for 300 do you tip the dealer and what percentage should it be?
Second when you do a chop or finish final table whats the proper percentage to tip the dealer? I recently did a 6 way chop at Hampton Falls in New Hampshire we each got 2800 and I gave the dealer 200 he said that was a good tip and he was happy. Later playing cash one player who I chopped with said 10 percent is the norm, while another said he was a dealer and 25 percent was a good tip ( I thought that was crazy btw). And last week I had a 2 way chop and we both gave the dealer 10 percent.
Just curious on the issue because I've never heard about it on any pros vlog or anything when it comes to tourneys.

So I've always been under the impression 10% was standard. Then anything over above that was a good tip? 25% seems crazy high unless he set you to suck out into a win with multiple hands or something. I'd say 15/20 percent is better than the majority tip?

As far a copping goes I hardly ever chop at a final table unless I'm a huge chip leader and am being given a high enough piece on top that it's stupid to continue? Or the opposite if I'm short stacked and we get down to where everyone can cash 3 Rd place money I'll do that once in awhile.

I am not tipping 10% to staff after a tournament. 3% is what they will get nothing more. I think if you are giving more than 3% you are a sucker. Most tournaments gouge the entrants with fees that are too high and expect the players to pay the dealers on top of that. 3% is plenty. They should factor the gratuity into the fee and split that portion up with the dealers instead of expecting players to tip after they just busted out of a tournament.

I'm actually talking about when you final table? If I bust out I usually don't tip? But if I final table cash I do. Some casinos I play at now actually do a dealer appreciation deal where when the tournament starts you get an extra 5/10 thousand chips for another $20 that goes to the dealers. Which if they are doing that I usually don't tip regardless of finish.

Also the amount of the cash plays a factor too obviously when I've won ten thousand or more I don't tip at ten percent. I think the most I've ever tipped a dealer was $1500.00 and that was on a 23 thousand win.

If you won the main event you wouldn't give the dealer 750K of your 7.5 million? But if it's $500 or less I do ten percent.

How exactly do you tip the dealers? you can just leave money on the counter from what i know and they all split it between themselves, have a friend that works in a casino and thats how it works there, and i just leave change usually if i cash for 1030$ ill leave 30$ and keep the rest, they have decent hourly and rake is 10-15% already when entering so i assume they do fine even without the tips, in cashgames tho if i make huge profit ill tip some aswell or after i win a big hand ill throw in some chips to the dealer but again they split those too doesnt go to the person u give the money directly.

I was told by the td at Hampton Falls poker room that their dealers worked exclusively for tips. I didn't think that was the way it was at all casino's. I know it's a little easier at cash games just throwing them a couple bucks for a decent win, and a little more when the pot is larger. Thank you for the info though I didn't wanna get hustled I mean it's not like dealers are equal partners in our scores.

Thank you I was thinking the same thing when I was told 10 percent is the norm. My question was more in line with what you alluded to. More about when the 10 percent caps off and it becomes a set rate or anything like that. Thank you for the info I really appreciate it.

Im not sure about this either, im from Europe thought and in few bigger casinos that i play in they get a decent hourly actually so im not sure about the US, but if i knew a place where they work only for tips i would certainly tip bigger on my big scores & cashes. but yeah here as i said i heard they split all the tips between all of the workers

Keep it simple. 5% if you min. cash 5x your buy-in. 10% if you finish in top 3. Just my opinion.

At Foxwoods they take 3% off the top for a tip for the dealers. They did that because nobody was tipping. So if your playing at a place where they don't take out money for the dealers than 3% should be enough.

I tip the dealer like it's a server at a restaraurt I give then 20% on all tourney cashes and win I hit a pot at the cash tables I will give then a $5 chip in a $5 / $10 cash game if it's a hugh pot I give them a $10 chip. When I hit high hand jack pot which is $500 I give them $50 tip and when they leave the table if they were a good dealer to me I give them a extra tip nothing hugh but I usually walk away from the live tables with 150-200 BB winnings after tips and drinks so I have fun and walk away with nice profits. I set my profit targets and I also set my lose limits and if I reach one or the other I leave unless the game is still real good then I'll stay for more profit.

3% of winnings, but I have also worked out a few deals where we have included a tip for the dealers.

I leave 5% of the winnings. There is no standard as far as I know. For example, on PSPC 2019, the winner Ramon Colillas did not leave a tip after winning 5.1 million.

I personally don't tip unless I know it's going to a specific dealer. I've played casino games whether a portion of the buyin is specifically towards staff appreciation, and then upon cashing they ask if I want to leave any winnings for the staff. In these cases, I never ever do. But if I had the opportunity to leave 20 or 40 bucks for the final table dealer or dealers, I might depending on my winnings. I've seen all sorts of numbers thrown around on this topic, so I don't think there's a clear cut answer.
