First live poker tournament?
Yes, sure. It was a €50 tournament for a ticket to a €200 tournament and I got hold of one. In the 200s it didn't go so well anymore. Beginner mistakes again and again.
Started online classic with Play Money. Switched to cash and paid quite a bit of apprenticeship. :(

Yes, aged 17

It was a £10 buy in, up to 300 other people competing in a working men's club.

I won £50 and thought I had made it. £50 was almost double what I earned in one weeks wage.

Cool topic, of course I remember.
I managed to win my first $5 live tournament. There were a total of 5 tables. Everyone was drinking a beer or smoking something.
I really liked the live game because of the combination of bar and gambling.

Super fun better than online.

In spite of having Higher costs (e.g. travel expenses, tipping), I have social interaction and more opportunities for reading physical tells.
The first live tourney after sometime playing online I got to ITM, and a few times later I got to a hell FT with 2 guys questioning every move I was doing in a very bad way. After these 2 bastards lost we came to an agreement, I was chip leader.
See You in a beautiful FT, keep up You BR and a lot of GG!

I lose immediately haha, I was to nervous to focus on the game, so I was a easy player to beat :(

My first live tournament was a 33 person free bar tournament. And I ended up winning it (this was 3 months after my -former- roommate first taught me poker strategy). I won $20 and a poker set. I got hooked after that. Played quite a bit online and joined CardsChat a year later, and got better. Entered in some smaller tournaments at the casino and did well for the most part.

I always preferred Live over Online... but online is obviously more convenient. Games go quicker.

I vividly recall my first live poker tournament. It was an exciting and intimidating experience, as the energy and pressure of a live casino is much different from the online environment. Despite the initial nerves, I quickly realized that live play offered unique opportunities to read opponents and make strategic decisions based on live tells and body language.

My initial impressions of online poker were that it was a fast-paced and convenient way to play. However, as I continued to play both live and online, I noticed significant differences in my play style and decision making. In online play, I relied heavily on software tools and information to gather information about my opponents, while in live play I had to rely on my instincts and ability to read opponents.

One of the biggest differences I noticed between live and online play was the pace of the game. Online play is often much faster, while live play is typically slower and more deliberate. This requires players to be patient and strategic in their decision making, which can be a challenge for those who are used to the fast pace of online play.

Another difference is the lack of personal interaction in online play. In live play, you have the opportunity to build relationships and network with other players, which can be a great advantage both on and off the table. In online play, the lack of personal interaction can make the game feel less personal and less intuitive.

In conclusion, both live and online poker offer unique opportunities and challenges, and as a seasoned veteran, I have come to appreciate the unique qualities of each format. Whether you prefer live or online play, it's always important to continue to develop your skills and knowledge, as the competition in both formats can be fierce.

My first tournament was in Atlantic City at a newly opened place called Borgata. This was around 2000 2001 somewhere in there. Before I played that tournament, everyone was playing 7 stud. So I've been playing 7 stud since 1996 and always wanted to give the NLHE a try. I didn't cash the tournament but I ran deep and was proud of that. I was instantly hooked on NL and never went back to 7 stud lol.
