Good morning, what is limp and how can it be used to benefit, or if it is bad to use it, as I am starting I do not understand and I do not know what limp is, I have read several forums about this and I do not understand them since I am not very technical

Limping is generally considered as passive action and a bad thing. Let's say that you are in UTG position. Limping means that when a player in the big blind has paid the blind you simply call and pay the big blind to continue the game.

There are situations where limping can be successful course of action, but in the same time you are making it cheap for players who act after you to see the flop. So to limp or not to limp is a question where you have to consider what kind of opponents you have, what cards you are holding, and what is your position in the table.

Here is another thread about limping.

Limping simply means calling to enter a hand without raising.

Limp is simply calling the BB.. it may be used.. depend on the situation and opponent.. I personally don't like to use it though as it tells nothing about your opponent hand..

For beginners, limping is definitely not the best strategy for playing pocket cards (especially strong hands), since beginner poker players will not master post-flop skills to perfection. For them, limping is a weak game that leads to the following troubles:

There is a growing temptation for other players to also dive into the pot with two random cards. Thus, there will be many players on the flop whose hole strength the hero does not know anything about.
Experienced or just aggressive players can make a big raise to take all the chips in the center of the table or stay with one of the amateurs heads up.
By limping strong hands you don't protect them, giving your opponents the opportunity to outbid you cheaply. And - which is also very important - do not form a large enough bank.

i would say limping is when you just call the big blind or a minimal raise with a monster hand, and continue to play passive until the board gets risky from your point of vieew

Limp have 2 sides, 1 - players that don't know how to play poker at all and this often supposed to be like that, 2 - bait rivals to raise, it's line when you have strong or weak hand, but want apply savage pressure, being shortstack for example, by playing limp-push line) My thoughts only)

Hello.
If you are a beginner then limp is a bad start for you. Better to be patient and wait for strong cards and good situations. This will allow you to better understand the basics of the game.
Good luck.

Cleaning means calling a bet without raising. It can be beneficial in case you have a strong game already completed to trick your opponent into thinking you don't have a great game but you will surprise him later.

To limp in poker is to bet the absolute minimum needed to stay in a hand. Limping is often used when the little blind simply calls the big blind instead of raising. It's also known as limp in, flat call, or calling the blind.

An open limp is when the first player to enter the pot preflop bets only the amount of the big blind, the minimum bet. The under the gun position is one that is most likely to open limp to see how the rest of the table will be playing their hands.
Ranking the Winning poker hands
Limping is considered to be weak and passive play and is seen more among beginning poker players rather than experienced players, who prefer to open with a raise if they have a hand they wish to play

Small Blind Limp

An example of the small blind limp is being dealt 8-9 offsuit in the small blind. All of the players before you fold so only the big blind and you will be in the hand if you limp in. You place the minimum bet in hopes that the big blind will simply check and you'll be able to see a cheap flop.

By limping in from the small blind, you risk that the big blind will raise and you'll have to decide whether to match it to see the flop. However, it is a cheap investment as you've already had to bet half of the amount of the big blind if you had folded rather than limped in.

If you have a strong starting hand when in the small blind, limping would be a weak or passive move. But if the big blind raises, you have the choice of reraising and sweetening the pot. However, that also signals that you have a strong hand, perhaps A-A.

A small blind limp with a strong hand can be a tactic to use against an aggressive player in the big blind. You can anticipate that they will raise and then you have the opportunity to call them and see the flop or to re-raise.

Open Limp

An example of an open limp is that you are the player under the gun and have the first action preflop. The big blind minimum bet is $10, so you place that bet. The action then proceeds around the table and other players have the chance to call, raise, or fold. If everyone folds and the big blind checks, then there are just you two in the pot, plus the $5 from the small blind, who folded.

More often, in the above scenario, one of the other players will raise the bet. You then have the choice to fold, call, or reraise. If you aren't prepared to defend your hand and call the raise, you have wasted chips by limping in.

From any position, limping in is considered to be a beginner's move and weak or passive play. But you might use it as a tactic if you are prepared to call any raise.

Limping is generally calling the big blind and allowing the oppontents to get in cheap. There is almost no benefit to this as more players in the hand will increase variance and may affect your odds of winning. I have limped on the button with AA just so I could look weak, but honestly this is not worth it as, like I said, variance can really screw you up if your opponent gets lucky.

Limp is that player (Cleanser), who likes to see a flop, and wants to leave the table shining.:ROFLMAO:

'Limping' or 'limping in' means simply to flat call preflop 1bb rather than raising the BB.

It is generally speaking a weak play, often done by beginners.

It refers to a preflop call specifically.

Silimar plays on later streets are known as 'flatting', as in, a flat call.

One good way to use the limp is to induce a raise when holding a monster and not wanting to scare everyone out of the pot with a raise. Such a play is better deployed (and safer) when done from late position after action is folded around to you.

Otherwise it isn't advisable, better to open with a raise or just fold, especially in MTT play.
