No matter how much you play, you always learn something. Each hand is unique. Of the decision variable. Everything always depends on the opponents.

The best way to learn risk free is to play freerolls.

That way you're only spending time, rather than time & money...

This is not only risk free but you can also build a BR so you can move into micros without risking your $$$ there either.

Hi there. To be honest , nothing..I started ,as many of us, playing freerolls.I built a healthy bankroll, with responsible bankroll management that I learned from the beggining at Intellipoker. Finally, after 5 years I made my first deposit because I needed it to withdraw some money..

Honestly i started playing poker on a free site called cardplayer where i made alot of friends. It was more about the entertainment and good company, where we played alot of freerolls, i even won the monthly $2000 tournament once and got 3rd in it another time but on average i was making between $250 to $450 bucks a month playing freerolls. I played alot of freerolls and when that site shut down i just moved with the community and kept playing freerolls. To this day i have never lost money playing poker, i have lost from what i won on sites and just used to enter certain tournaments, but never lost from my own money yet.

I took very conservative approach building my initial bankroll entirely from freerolls (no deposit) and after that following strict bankroll management trying to always have between 60 and 100 buyins for the levels on which i play. This way i did not loose any money but it took rather long time instead.

Personally, I did not lose anything, I studied and played only on freerolls, I advise other novice players as well.

I started playing poker with the sole intention of not having a loss of poker money. Therefore, I first participate in freerolls and then I go to play for money won. I’m not going to use my money for poker. No shares do not force me to apply my money to the game.

Played on a couple sites for no money for over a year. At that time I read quite a bit and focused on certain aspects of the game. Made a deposit on PS and FTP and never looked back. Once I stumbled on forums (this was my first), it really rounded out the knowledge base. Never lost any money on a pokersite.

Don't need to lose money to Learn poker ...you can just play for no real money and learn strategies and tips for online tournaments ..or play freerolls ..but it's different to play with money or no ..you don't have the same psychology if you practise you can be good !!

It is better, I think, not to make the same calculations, the main thing is at what level you are now, and most importantly, you enjoyed learning a new science, did you like the time you spent at the poker table? You must pay for the pleasure, and soon you may start making a profit!

I invested about $ 100 for the entire time of my games, given that this is online poker. Something won and shot.

Depends on what you mean with loose before you started to win since it takes a while for variance to sort of even out.

I started with a 2$ deposit after having played a little bit of playmoney poker doing well there.

I won up to 60ish dollars first day. PLayed better than many others and had a bit of luck.

Then I played and withdrew some or moved up in stakes quickly with no bankroll management, won some lost some. I could beat games up to 100nl but the games where very soft back then, 07-08.

I didn't make consitent money untill I learned about bankroll management and I started study a bit more. I wish I had had the time to study more back when the games where so soft. But at least from then I was a long term winner for a couple of years.
Am just getting back to some playing again, the games have changed but the lower micros are still somewhat soft and very beatable if you are good at math and emotionally stable and study the game for a while.

First time I played poker

Good morning everyone.
I remember as if it were today, the day I made my 1st deposit on a poker site, I lost $ 10.00 in 10 minutes, I thought about not playing anymore and only started playing again after I watched a video of professional player Andre Akkari , saying that for those who want to learn to play poker it is very important to start playing free rolls, so I didn't lose much, my nickname is Fanfarrão 1983, according to sharkscope my biggest negative value was $ 46.00, and then my chart it was going up.
These free mtts are great for learning to play. What definitely changed my game, was the day I spiked a free roll at pokerstars, with 2906 players, I won a ticket to play another $ 109.00 entry value satellite, which offered 2 tickets to play a $ 1,050.00 Mtt .
I played this satellite very well and became CL for a long time, when there were 3 players left, I was almost tied with CL, and I played to be in 3rd place, with the $ 200.00 prize, I had less than $ 1 in my account, I was very happy with this result.
I believe that playing for 1 year on average to start being profitable, playing poker online.

Many years ago I started playing freerroll and therefore my deposits were null. You have to find a way to take advantage of the low buy-in satellites that give you the opportunity to play more important tournaments.

Started playing 10 years ago with fake id, but with my deposit.
It was fun after that one deposit I was hook on the game and I play since then.
Now many years later I haven't deposit money in my account's for sure 3 years and maybe more.
So how much I've lost maybe about 300euros all in all. That divided on years is nothing, since in the meantime I have won a lot too.
Now dedicated on smaller tour with small wins, but with very low number of players since more players mean more time, more difficult to get in the ft.
I find it this way to be profitable for me in a very long term.
100-200 players, not so big buy in, play 2-3 hours get a little bill in your pocket ;)

To be honest, I won more in the beginning, when I started to play poker than nowdays. I don't know what is the reason, but at the moment I am really struggling to get back on the winning road. Maybe the reason can be that when I started to play poker, I played a lot of freerolls and I was feeling more comfortable there than now when I am playing more tournaments with real money.:)

I started to win very very little , because of the strict VRM and the freerolls , or else I would still have losses , but not so great losses as when I started .

Then I didn't know a lot , I was playing for fun , losing everyday , depositing everyday , didn't know anything about freerolls , not even for promotions or bonuses or rakeback , LOL .

But when you lose evryday , either you will stop in the end or you will start paying attention a bit more at the tables , see with what you lost , what you did . Then maybe decide to watch one two tables , then decide to play more clever and sneaky . But still , only the decisions that was a great pain for me , such as very close to ITM , ot very close to get a sat ticket , but was a failure , were a shock to make me think more seriously .

Nowadays I will try to study sth more , then come back . I want to take it to a new level , study way far more , play very very few games one or two days , study is a must . Some have the charisma to play since children , some learn too fast at the tables , some study some and this is enough to start having profits , and some like me need a looooooot more work to succeed , LOL . gl to me nowadays :)
Although I still have nostalgia for the reckless games of the first days/months , when I didn't care for the money as fore the thrill , the fun , the bets waiting for luck . (Ofcourse I realised luck is not so '' lucky '' at the tables , this leads to an unavoidable need for change in betting/spending/depositing habbit ....)

Exactly how much I lost I don't know , but it wasn't a lot , I tried to calculate how much via the rakeback in the first 3-4 months when I started playing , it makes sth less than 300$ , very little money , but very strange , cause I remember depositing almost everyday 10$ for 3 months , it doesn't make so much sense nowadays to me , maybe 600-800$ is more probable loss , ofcourse there were some upswings in some sessions , very lucky NLH or rarely PLO cash games , so I had the money to spend for one more day or even two before I lost them , lol , but still , probably it's more , I don't really know ..... I am talking for PokerStars , there I began :) Ofcourse still 600-800$ is not much , thanks God I also had hen , the fun days , the sense to control my spendings , although I hadn't learned or thought seriously of BRM , which happenned later due to boredom of the many times of losses and stupid hands , lol :) Also I was losing on one other site little money when I began , besides Stars , haven't calculated them ever since then .

I won my first poker tournament. 7-card stud at a river boat casino. Less than 100 people. Small winner from then on.

However, there have been a couple $500 dives when learning new things. When I moved to online poker and had to switch to Limit Hold'em (pre black friday) I lost my $500 deposit. The speed of online play was also a shock to the system.

When I came back last year and discovered Limit Hold'em was pretty much dead online and had to switch to No-Limit, another $500 deposit went in the toilet right away.

Both times I recovered fairly quickly after the second deposit and continued to be a tiny earner at the micro stakes. Hopefully, I will be able to break out the micro stakes without incurring another $500 nosedive.
