I'm looking at poker as a game of negotiation under incomplete information.
As I see it, the success comes from 3 main sources:
1. Luck
2. Skill (applying GTO decisions)
3. Emotional resilience - deviate from GTO as a result of "unfair" outcomes happening at the poker table - dynamic inconsistency of GTO decisions. This generally takes the form of ultra aggressive risk taking decisions which usually result in more losses.

I play for some time and I came to the conclusion that the behavioral factors are actually more important than skill (luck cancels out in large numbers).

I see myself having a winning streak of 2-3 weeks but losing all the accumulated profit in a single session because of having a tilt episode. For me, these episodes mainly materialize as:
- I engage in more risky bets/bluffs;
- I don't follow the bankroll rules previously set.

The problem with tilt is that it is easy to talk about it when you are not experiencing such episode.

In my opinion if you find a way to measure tilt you can find a way to manage it. I need to manage it effectively, as it is already causing important financial damage.

Do you guys usually try to manage tilt when playing poker? What are you doing?

I'm looking for some practical advice.
Thank you!!!

I just don't care about losing, it's never that bad. If I lose a hand, it's whatever. If I made +ev decisions and still lose, good for me. If I made -ev decisions and lose, then I need to do better. Individual outcomes don't matter as much as long term results, so I keep my focus on that.

I personally don't think that you should be playing poker with a huge amount of money, that would put you under stress and you will lose courage to play... Play only with what you can afford to lose, this way you will play comfortably and with full options... I do the same and i don't get sad when i lose, at least i play with no fear... That's poker...

I think it is 1 and 2 luck and ability, the 3 and the emotional must. To be part of your ability, you have to study how to drive, be serene, if despair invades you and you start to change your gaming strategy, you will surely lose more often because you will make more erroneous decisions.

Hi iLoV3P0ker. Years ago I had a real bad tilt problem. And because of that I just lost more. Therefore, I started to work on that. I mean I put every other problem I had aside and worked on nothing but my tilt problem. Now don't get me wrong, I did learn a thing or two along the way, but I worked on tilt everyday for about 6 months. Today I can say truthfully that nothing can make me tilt, and I have seen it all. The beats come and go without me thinking about them more than a minute. I can't change it, so why get mad. GL to you

I think the best guarantee of avoiding tilt is player discipline. Discipline and bankroll management are two key elements to prevent tilt.

Sit out and breath

I think this is very private, but for me, I like to sit out and breath outside. This works a lot for me to de-stress.

I have been mediating before I play to be more relaxed when I play. It has really worked for me. I also listen to meditation music as I play. Today I rarely go on til and when I do its rarely more tat a few annoying thoughts.

As for luck, it is a very over stated thought. There is no luck "well not 100% true" in poker long term. If you play better than others overall luck plays no factor in ow you will do. Luck only affects the short term and we should do our best to ignore the luck factor. If you can get o the point that you can ignore luck, both good and bad you will find you wont go on tilt very often. I know this is easier said than done but work on it and it will help you a lot.
