I was playing a friendly tournament 1/2 tourney at home, and it was down to 2 players. Hero is short stack (27 chips) and villain is pretty big (40 something). We’re all relative beginners.

Villain had been playing pretty loose and passive, but had already put someone all in as he was covered.

We play a few rounds and I feel like he’ll play almost anything, and he’ll be aggressive with broadways.

I get dealt AhKc and villain is the button. I raise to 10, villain pushes all in.

What would you do in this situation?

Instacall? :)Also when betting 10BB on a 27BB , I feel when you go 1/3 of your stack Preflop, you are committed to going all in... ofcourse there are exceptions... to any 'rule'.

Say he has a pocketpair, which would be his highest range, and not likely, you are still up for a sligtly less than flipcoin..

Also no shame in going out with AK ;)

First, you prob ably should have shoved first in the hopes they would fold.

But once down to that decision I would call, probably against any player, but especially against a loose player who may be shoving with anything just to push you off the pot.

In this case, the best strategy for your opponent is constant aggression with an extended range of starting hands. So, I think you need to call all-in with AKo.

So I ended up going all in.

Villain had QsJh

Oh well. I feel like I played the situation as it was correctly. I suppose, as stated above, I could have maybe pushed all in early.

AK heads up is a monster. Against a loose player even better. Call every time in that spot. Don't worry that you lost that one it was the correct play.

I do not really understand the content, but it depends how big the stake is, and in what situation of the tournament you are. Begin, middle or bubble. but it also depends on the stack you have. If I was at the beginning of a tournament, I would frankly call, to try and double my stack.

As you described the other player I will definly call the all in with AK. On the heads up is a very good hand. You double your chips and put more pressure on him.

Calling shove with AK in heads up is never mistake.Shoving range in HU is much wider then in full ring so a lot of the time you will have villan dominated.

AK offsuit or suited in Heads Up should be considered a Monster if it has been 3-betted or there's a shortstack all in it could be behind but still holds a good percentage to win just call and cross fingers :fight:

Against the loose player, especially aggressive, is always possible push. With high probability you will be ahead.

Yeah, i expected something like that. You played well, calling a player that you know pretty well like that is a good move, you were unlucky there and that's all
