It seems possible this year more than ever. With the numbers being as low as they're projected, we might see a pro finally take it down. I'm not saying a few thousand less players makes it easier, but with the numbers the way they are, I wouldn't be surprised to see some big names at the final table this year.

I predict Chris Ferguson or a wild horse in Shannon Shorr winning the Main Event. Who are your picks?

And my new article previewing the 2009 world series of poker is out. Check it!

My pick would be an online MTT pro. Someone like a Sorel Mizzi or Jon Turner.

I agree, I think this is finally the year a known established name in poker takes down the Main Event.

I'm see a lot of people agreeing that a pro will take it down, however we're ignoring the part where we make our picks.

C'mon folks this is a freeroll! If you're right, you're gonna look like a super genius in a few months and if you're wrong who cares!

Give me the Clever Piggy! I'll take Allen Cunningham

Phil Ivey!!! A pro is due to win this event, so why not arguably the best poker player in the world?

I don't think so 'cause some pros play in high stakes games where the blinds are 4000/8000 dollars so when you pay 10000 for a main event tickets ( the majority get the ticket for free ) it is very hard to concentrate ... but still if I gotta pick one it would be Allen Cunningham or phil hellmuth !!

I might get made fun of but my pick for this year is Mike Matusow because he has been playing very great past few years in the main event and I think its his time to win it.

I always make all of my goofy wsop predictions in its own thread on the night before the WSOP begins. I think I was pretty bad last year too, like 25% right. Guess I have a few weeks still to refine this years picks. :D

I'd LOVE to see chris ferguson at the last table. I love how that guy plays. One of my inspirations to take my poker playing more seriously.

Erm... maybe I missed something. Who exactly is expecting the field to be a few thousand runners smaller than previous years?

I think the chances of a pro taking it down this year are no different to what they've been in any post-boom year: minimal. Though it'll probably depend on how loose your definition of "pro" is.

I dont think a pro will win the main event. I think a new comer will take it down. And I think this year it will be from fulltilt.
