I’ve heard a lot of countries don’t allow poker or gambling in general. In some countries it’s even illegal, my question is why?

I suppose questions of taxes and prohibitions, but there are also countries that you want so much to discourage in some cases and to prohibit both gambling, alcohol or drugs, is at least the explanation that I find.

In some countries cultural traditions and/or religion are the reason to ban all gambling activities. In other the government just does not want to make needed efforts to regulate gambling. It is different for every country. Bad thing is that in many countries poker is still considered gambling same as slots and other casino games. I hope that at some point the image of poker will be separated from the pure gambling and this great game will be in its own category and much more widespread.

Here gambling itself is not illegal luckily although there is (atleast) one major poker room which to this day doesn't have license here so pretty much they do are illegal ... But despite that we still use them without any problems ...

Therefore it is never wrong to do something illegal :hmmmm2:

well poker has the potential to make you addicted and to be "abused" as gambling and make you lose everything you have . it can be dangerous

there are people who unlike us dont view/know poker as a game of skill and a game where you have to be careful regarding the money that is available for you to play

It's a economic thing.

EVERY COUNTRY / STATE in the world is trying to make gambling between countries / states illegal since they don't want their money spreading to foreign countries

oh wait you said poker? not online poker?

beats me then....xxxx

I think that basically the whole point is in the legislation, which is badly developed for these purposes !!! In some countries it may also be related to religion !!!

The reasons may be different. But in most cases, I think this is a banal lobbying of the interests of certain political groups.

If the question is being asked honestly someone needs to answer honestly.

Many countries attempt to ban gambling from a moral perspective - the culture believes it can lead to bad habits and financial ruin. That belief likely stemmed from a political or religious foundation but still many think gambling is a scourge on society.

And lets just add that a recent post here in General Poker is by someone who has a gambling problem and he is afraid he will ruin himself..

The fact is the UK government (amongst others) is now trying to limit the gambling problem they helped foster in British culture and the likes of Gamblers Anonymous would not exist if people did not repeatedly succumb to their gambling addictions.

I am a non-gambler. I am only attracted to poker because of the game and am not curious about any other form of betting. But even if I cannot 'understand' an addiction such as gambling, I know full well it exists and causes great damage to individuals and families.

I can therefore understand why some societies want to discourage (even block) gambling as they regard it as nothing but a vice and unfortunately poker gets caught up in that net.

Unfortunately, in many countries, tournament poker is equated to gambling. And if gambling is prohibited in the country, then poker is also prohibited. But mainly in such countries there are special zones where you can build casinos and engage in gaming activities.

Hello, first of all, this is the control of taxation, the outflow of currency from the country through online rooms, I am not strong in this matter, but I think if everything is organized correctly, then the profit will be solid even for such a state as Russia.
