I buy/sell antiques and collectibles. There's some of the same psychology in play when bidding at live auctions as there is in poker. You never want to act like you really want the item you are bidding on pre bid. Then when you are bidding, if you are reaching the max you are willing to pay for something, you want to show confidence, so your opponent thinks you are willing to bid more than you are, so they give up and stop bidding. And you need to set a max bid and stick to it, don't let the excitement of the live bidding make you bid more than an item is worth, or you won't make any profit.
It is clear that in addition to playing poker, you also have to go to work. This is a rather long distraction.
I also prefer the usual walks with friends. Especially when the games are particularly bad. This is a good distraction.
