I love rap music but during poker, if I do listen to music, it has to be songs I am very familiar with, or just electronic deep house/trance music with minimal lyrics.
I said this on a similar thread before. Its all about the classical music. Beethoven is the best.
Schubert - Piano trio in E flat
Shostakovich - Waltz no.2
I have a long list of my favorites, but these two are put on loop more than any others when I play. You also can't go wrong with Wager. I prefer stuff that isn't going to make my heart race while I am playing poker. So I stay away from stuff like Beethoven's Piano Sonata no.23--the first movement is okay, but it gets to hectic from there--even though this is one of my all time favorites.
I have never been able to listen to modern music of any kind when playing poker. I either just zone out and end up blocking the songs out or the vocals just start to annoy me when I am trying to concentrate.
Anything but rap, hip hop or techno. Normally just put on Pandora with Artist I like and get a general genre from that. No and then will pull stuff off my iPod.
Maybe a little off topic, but do you guys ever feel like you're missing out on anything when you listen to music? I tried listening via earbuds at my last casino session and took them out after 15 minutes or so. I couldn't stand missing out on table talk thinking there might be valuable info I wasn't privy to.
Good thread. My preference depends on mood and changes often. Lately, Tool when I'm feeling faster and Tallest Man on Earth when I'm slowing down. Both fantastic.
I listen to music that relaxes me, and is not very heavy. For example, classical music. I noticed that more aggressive music makes me play more aggressive and risky
I usually listen to documentaries, but if it comes down music vary from folk rock, folk metal, classic/ambiental music and even lo-fi, it depends on my mood
