What you get as a poker player? For me playing poker is total freedom. Freedom to gamble, to take my shots, to work from anywhere, and to not work when i don’t feel like working. Is like dream, like a opportunity to do a great thing...playing poker is beautiful.

Excellent post, I will tell you poker for me is all about math, its figuring out the odds at any given time to try and determine what the out come will be, the better your math skills the better you figure the odds the better you will win and enjoy, cause lets face it no one likes to lose, problem is with online poker those math odds are all F'
ud up, and do not jive with real live play, but as a gamer, poker is like playing a video game, except its for real money. game on.

Poker is a competition to me I love competition. It is a series of small battles that accumulate into a war. To the victor comes the spoils. Unleash the Dogs of War. Shuffle up and Deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poker is a way for me to use my logic along with quasi-calculated risks to win some money. It is and will always be just a part time hobby. I've always been quiet guy and I'm quiet at the tables as well, but sometime silence can be deadly.

Sometimes it's playing the 1/2 live game at the track, sometimes it's about taking a shot at the 2/5. Not many 'happy' faces at the table, but I'm not here for the social interaction. I'm here to make some money. Some good nights, some bad.

Recently, it's also a great way to schedule time to workout on my exercise bike. One hour a night multitabling turbo DONs. Laptop fits nicely on the book rack on the bike. DONs are very low variance, low risk, slow steady rewards. Almost imppossible not to be +EV. After a sedentary decade, I've finally decided to loss the weight, eat right and get healthy. I've lost 40 pounds in last 4 months playing poker AND I'm making money... about 25 more pounds to go.

But my favorite poker game is the semi-regular one with the neighbors every other Friday night or so. A few fast SNGs with the boys, but poker is really secondary. A table full of smiling, laughing beer drinking guys blowing off some steam and having a great time. I always make sure I am never more than a break even player at these games.

Poker to me is about beating people. Sport and competition have always been important to me and poker is just another brnach of that. Also I hope to be a semi professional poker player in the future, so at the moment I'm building up a roll that can allow me to play higher stakes where I can withdraw winnings and carry on at same stakes.

It is the competition that keeps me hooked. I use to be a wrestler (paralyzed in car accident) and playing poker is the closest experience I found to competing in the athletic field. Can be both fun and discouraging just like sports. The only drawback is the luck element.

Poker to me is a passion. I love the complex aspects of the game and the fact that you are able to be competitve in a more mental than physical way.

Well I haven't been posting because I been sick and it's a personal thing that I keep to myself. Now I play poker because I like competition and it keeps me busy. I play more as a hobby and not a living but I have won my share of money at times and oh yeah I have lost a lot of money playing. Right now that I'm feeling better be nice to get back on the tables. Crazyhorse72 ------>one post I put CH99 well I made a mistake. Opps

for me it's a rush, and by that I mean that overwhelming excitement you feel when that flop comes out and those times you hit the absolute best hand possible, it's just a feeling that I can't get anywhere else.

I have never played poker in an actual casino, only just online and the occasional home game, but I can almost see myself in an actual casino just getting too excited giving away way too many tells, poker is just a blast.

It's a recreational activity for me. The main reason I play is for enjoyment during my free time. That I make money is a very nice bonus but not a motivation. at least not a major one.

Poker is a puzzle to which there is no solution ,but strangely ....rather than that spoiling it it makes it even better .

Poker allows me to still be competitive. The constant learning exercises my gray matter and I enjoy the banter I have with a few poker buddies.

As I do like to master most games and sports I play, you cannot master poker because of all of the variables. This keeps me learning and improving which I enjoy very much.

It is an excellent feeling that I feel with poker, it gives me an immense tranquility to sit down to play, make me fly, dream, it is a passion that grows day by day, no matter if I win or lose playing, I have a lot of fun, river , I get angry, etc, it gives me freedom, I feel liberated playing poker

well....I kinda understand what you're saying because sometimes I have about the same.

There's times when I'm like....yes....let's play and I'm happy doing what I want that moment.
Though, there's also days I actually don't want to play at all, not having the right mindset.
Experience tells me if this is the case, I'd better avoid playing because not having the right mindset destroys your game and most likely a part of the bankroll.

So basically, sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it.

oh and no matter how much you love the game, a bad streak could really hurt you mentally...avoid to let that happen and quit for a while, so you can start your next session with a fresh mind.
It might take a few days to get back in the right mindset, sometimes it just takes an hour......experience will tell.

I love playing poker. I consider it like brain training and you can earn some money, maybe even live from poker earnings. It depends how good are you in poker.

I know many guys see it as a means to get some money , others see it as a game that they try to master it with their experience and mathematical backround and some technology/software help etc . Maybe in the future for me as well :) But for now it's a hobby to me , I don't know if I like the gambling side so much as others do , but for sure it's a nice way to spend my free time , evolve my playgame through chatting in forums ( when I get to know to some nice fellows , even better :) ) , I love this game and I still have a lot of things to learn :)
