I know people who spend too much money without having a good result.

they get into trouble they spend more money than they can spend, they ask for loans, they spend money that is not theirs, they have divorces that go bankrupt.

they already take the game of poker more than a hobby to a vice

for what is this?
psychological problems ?
lack of work?

perhaps they think that THIS time they will win....but it just doesn't work that way,you have to put in the time and effort and be properly bankrolled, which they aren't because they are taking other peoples money, rent and food money etc. for playing with. CRAZY

Hello.
Yes, sometimes people become addicted to gambling.
Obviously, this is a problem of personality psychology. It is worth considering each such case individually. All these problems are due to the lack of a clear plan of action.
If the player is purposeful, disciplined and patient, he is working hard to improve skills every day, then he will be a successful player.

why sometimes people think they are not addicted anymore, I believe that if gambling addiction can be the person's personality, many scientists say that because of the brain that releases dopamine and makes you to always want more, but I think I celebrate it and why does it control you? so I guess this has to be quietly observed.

I think when you passed your limits. For example if you got 20 $ for poker and you spent 50 i thinks from that way is addiction .Poker contains a sector of gabling so its easy to be addicted.

Poker is an exciting game. If you can not control yourself, do not play poker. It will end badly. Poker is not suitable for everyone.

All of the action at the tables can cause a person to be addicted.

I think these people just depend on excitement. They don't care what they play. They need emotions. They have a far-fetched dream is to win the pot, and as it is not important...

There is a term for that - adrenaline junkie. People frequently tend to want more and more from the things that give them pleasure. If it will be alcohol, drugs, gambling, fast driving or anything else it doesn't matter. Everybody should try to have balance in his/her life and not go to extremes. Usually people that play poker this way are looking at poker as pure gambling just like roulette or lottery for example. They want to test their luck and this is all they care for. If somebody is gambler as a person it is very difficult to make him not treat poker as just another form of gambling.

Drinking gambling drugs all these things are a problem if you are not earning money
It is all relative.

The millionaire who drinks or takes whatever morning noon and night and loses $5000 gambling in a week would not blink an eye!
The man earning 60000 or 70000 a year would say ooch but get on with it,
The low paid worker or the unemployed this would be a catostrophe because they can not replace what was lost so this group has to really practice bankroll management the most.

Guys here talk about adrenaline junkies and they are right I want to win a huge tournament but because of that I lose chunks of disposable income but once the mortgage and utilities keep getting paid I pat myself on the back when pay them first before I play poker.

And this Sunday will play the Sunday million no problem $215 already assumed lost by me does not bother me used to spend more than that on taxis in and out of city on a friday night load of alcohol and big leaking kebab before my children were born,
But can you imagine winning over 100000 in 12 or thirteen hours the barman in pub will never offer you any cash back after spending thousands in his venue all year round.
Pay half mortgage in one week interest savings would be huge lol.:)

Grinding 50 dollars into 5000 dollars over 20 years is not for everybody
Pay something off the bills first before gamble though.
But aim for a bankroll that is worth managing like the guys who sit on top of the big wins thread in cardchat because until then you are just moving peanuts about.
Just my opinion here and I know everybody different and I respect that good luck all.:top:

They need BRM , they try to win big money in a short period of time , even a day, but this is not possible (not that there are not exceptions . but if you don't follow the general rule you'll have the problems like the ones you describe ) . Some of them have to learn to play better to win I guess , not to keep on spending more money , hehehe :)

I stopped big money gambling when my children were born. Lucky I stopped binge drinking too.My quack reckoned I was borderline alkie.

If $215 doesn't worry you, Hugh, good luck to you. I make horse and sports bets that big but if I ever clean out my racing and sports betting banks, I will stop immediately.

Take it from a fellow gambling addict.

Gambling IS AN ADDICTION! And getting addicted to poker is just the addiction of choice. I suffer from Bipolar Disorder which hampers my ability to gain a measure of control of my gambling addiction. Thank God I have never spent so much as to not be able to eat or pay my bills, but it has come dangerously close on more than one occasion. So when you ask what is the cause of a person becoming addicted to poker - I say that they have an addictive personality to start with and that poker is just their addiction of choice.

Thx

thank you all for your advice and comments.

It is clear that the biggest influence in becoming poker vicious is not being able to handle their impulses.
good luck at the tables:rolleyes:

These are people who are addicted to gambling. They already need medical help. It seems to them that they will win big money. They can not really look at things.

To me addiction to poker is something that even if you are loosing you don't have the NO in your brain and you just want to keep on and on but the result is still a loss. Plus unproperer bankroll management aswell.

I think people usually tend to make decisions without complete understanding of the situation. Very often such decisions go wrong way because people do not have a plan to work through or because they go beyond the plan, a practice intrinsic to psychologically weak people.

Yes it happens that many people become addicted to gambling and these are psychological problems that need to be dealt with by a specialist physician in such cases, because such people who are addicted to gambling can lose a lot!

How is gambling addiction developed?
The basic problem
The development of gambling addiction is a complex process influenced by several factors. The most important are as follows:

A profound disturbance of the personal perspective (a "narcissistic" disorder).
A problem in relationships.
An unusual state of excitement.
A problem of self-esteem
This question is particularly important because there is a self-feeling described as an inner void or as nothing. Many deeply rooted feelings of inferiority, often originating in childhood, are compensated by megalomaniac illusions.

Initial gains strengthen the ego and seem to confirm the idea that they are really special, usually happens after a "big win", a quick and seemingly easy profit that begins to move from the mind to a fantasy world.

A degree of deregulated excitation
The inability to regulate inner excitement and nervousness results in the peculiar restlessness of a gambling addict. The motivation to play at the beginning is success and profit, reducing boredom and managing negative feelings such as separation. These individuals end up falling into a vicious cycle, ultimately endangering all areas of their lives.
