Whats ur preference and why? I'd love to read opinions on this.

Tourneys have been getting to me lately. In a cash game i just know what to do, its like hunting. U load and wait. Cuz that big sucker is coming guaranteed.

Tourneys i'm playing my butt off for 4-5 hours, ducking and dodging, bluffin and getting bluffed for a stinking 50,100,150 bucks. Only to be eliminated before the real money starts being dispensed.

Despite ur preference, do u guys feel cash games make more sense profit-wise?

Though I don't regularly play cash games (not rolled for much higher than 5nl at the best of times) I would tend to say that they are better profit-wise than MTT's.

Thought of SNG's? Alot less stress and variance than MTT's, and more (I find anyways) exciting than cash games. Decent rate of return while multitabling turbo's and plenty of action.

Multi-tabling? Havent thought of SnG's like that yet. I tend do stay out of turbos mostly. Maybe i'm making a big mistake.

I feel 5mins isnt enough to handle the variance and ur bound to get blinded to death. 10mins is much more comfortable.

Yea even cash games at small limits still tend to involve that one big sucker. So if u play 2-3 tables at once it seems worth ur time.

I just kinda find it extremely brutal on my psyche to sit here for 5hrs and make 50 bucks or nothing at all.

Tourneys or Cash Games

There are definitely advantages to playing cash games... the money is a bit easier. However, I prefer tourneys simply because I like the challenge. Overall, I tend to do ok and get a return on my investment.

However - I have found a super easy way to make money - bodog (and some other sites) have Double-Up sit n go tables. Basically, 10 people enter the sit n go, and the top 5 will double their money back. Super easy and a lot of fun to see the bucks rolling in....

I agree with you on this part...Rings just get me on Edge especially when I lose a 200+ dollar pot in 1 ****ing hand which I shouldn't have lost....Yet Rings is where the moneys also at at the same time...I mean lets face it ppl, you can pop up 5 games of 1/2 for a total of 1 stack out the BR.....Double up on all of you tables, and your good to go, for a total of 1k profit for the day

In tournaments you sit with random people, and are there until you lose all of your chips or win all of the chips. Payouts are less consistent, but when you do cash payouts tend to be bigger.

In ring games you can pick which table you sit at, and you can leave at any time and take your winning with you, or cut losses. So if the table sours you can leave and/or go elsewhere. You can also sit out for a couple rounds without any penalty, and you can rebuy if a bad beat/cold deck takes all of your chips.

I think ring games are the way to go for grinding for profit, but tournaments can be exciting and fun and have the potential for massive wins, so I can see their appeal.

I love the both and play the both. It depends on if I have spare time. If I have much of it I play MTT's or sng if not I play cash game.

I generally suck at ring. I have lost the appetite for really big tourneys only because they take so long, leaving me with SnG's.

I think generally people say that ring games are the most consistent method for increasing your bankroll.

I suck at ring games though and do much better at the 90 man sng. Like others I tend to steam a bit and it can cost me on the ring games.

I agree, I use cash games to Bankroll my MTT play. What I lose in the MTT I win back at the cash games. especially on FT.

I really want to be better at cash games but I tend to still suck. I just like the freedom to sit down and get up whenever you choose.

MTTs are great when playing well and getting cards but can have long long dry spells with no significant win.

Too look at the stats i should stick with the smaller SnGs but there in lies the problem. I get too bored playing one game so I spread out my losing over them all. lol

Ducking & dodging, bluffin & and getting bluffed?? < this isn't a huge aspect in MTT play. Just wondering... what sites are you playing on?

Personally I prefer MTT play. It's the game I have passion for & have invested so much more time into. Sure you can have huge downswings, run bad for quite awhile, etc. etc.... but I prefer the game more than I do cashgame &/or SNG (especially SNG... SNG's are boring,.. I find cashtable play boring too though).

I see. I should prob pick a "tourney day" myself then. Sounds reasonable. Cash games seem to be more brutal when u lose but man...i was just in a stinkin $8 tourney 450+ ppl just to get donked in the end barely finishing in the money, getting 19.95 or so.

Makes me wanna headbutt my monitor.

I have no idea how u guys make it through those.

And the worst ever is the Daily Dollar on FT. Its more like the Daily Donkey.

Weeeee... just lost to another 3-outer now.. just off the $'s.... buddy raises & I flat in pos.. he leads out 1/3 on flop.. I ship it with Top2pr... he calls... and YES!!!.. he hits his 3-outer ftw!!...'gg' me
this ^ is often very common in MTT play & if you're going to choose MTT's you have to get used to it (the above is a mild example by comparison to some... especially when you get hit by a dozen or more in succession.. it happens though.. and is why many say "Mtts are for the crazy people" (cuz if ur not crazy.... after awhile you will be!)

Oh my guy trust me. I'm constantly dodgin donkeys on FT. Maybe i need to grind a bit and up my buy-ins to those 10-20+ tourneys. Anything below $10 is a donkfest even in later stages sometimes.

2-7 suited all in in the late stages. U wouldnt beliiiiiieeeve what fell. 2-Q-7. The poor guy must've smashed his computer considering what beat his KK. I havent seen a whole lotta stuff like that in a casino 1-2 live game.

Maybe im just not understanding who we're dealing w online.

Cashgames are boring in my opinion, tournaments are competition and fun. But the variance is sick. Don´t make the mistake only playing one tournament at a time. Most of the time you won´t cash. Maybe you can earn more in cashgames, but this a whole other game than tourneys with another required skill-set.

Yes I agree. Although I've won some money at the small fields MTTs, I much prefer cash. With SNG and MTTs, all you need is to be unlucky only once and you've wasted not only your money, but your time too.

I play 6 man 4NL cash. Doing good for the most part. I've tried the DON SNGs... did very poorly. Less than 40% cash rate. Cost myself some coins there.

This thought process goes right out the window as ring games on all sites are loaded down with colluders. 45 player sng's or mtts are imo, more profitable. Daks plays pretty regular in Vegas, ask what her preference is for.;)
