Do you talk at the table, even if it is just a NH and a TY etc?
I have noticed over the years this has become almost non existent. I don't mind having a chat occasionally, learning about different parts of the world etc. or sometimes a bit of "Helmouthing" to get them where I want them...Nothing like taking on a keyboard warrior with wits.

I only chat if it's not related to poker. Game discussion in the chat box is bad for everyone at the table. I got so tilted yesterday from chat.

I had position on a very spewy player. He was just firing his stack into the middle almost randomly. He was pushing a bunch of people off hands, had gotten lucky a couple times, but had also gotten stacked and immediately rebought already. And, I had position on him. This was just one of those moments you dream about in poker. I had just stacked him for $34 (at 25nl) with top set on a dry board against his Ace-high. After that hand, an uninvolved player commented: "haha, retard" (or something to that effect).

The spewy player folded, sat out, and left the next hand. I was so pissed at the uninvolved player. There was every reason to believe that the bad player was going to continue playing at the table, until he was made to feel stupid. That guy's comment cost everyone at the table money.

As long as it's friendly and unrelated to the game going on, I chat all the time. I will say nh, ty, and other stuff like that.

I never start conversation at tables. Only if someone ask me for something what gives a sense I answer... But I used to chat more at the beginning :) I was probably just excited by playing poker :)

Im do like to drop in my occasional LoL and Bling in sportsbook but on others they give you the option for chat to be off. If you dont roll with chat off then you should try not to let anything tilt you i find it hard enough as it is without the help of others ;).

Personally, when I am at a poker table I am there to play poker. Bars, poker forums and social sites are for chatting.

I'm not a fan of the nh, ty, gg stuff. Especially those people who think an unanswered nh is the height of rudeness.

I was playing on a play money stud table on pokerstars and there was a group of female regulars who got very upset at my non participation. "Why doesn't he go to another table if he wants to be that rude" Good grief ;-)

Don't normally have much time for chat, too many other things to do.
I find it strange that some people sit at a single table and want to have a random social chat (often about football), I wonder why they don't use forums or chatrooms for that.
I think there could be more socializing in forum games,
but we are so used to multitabling and just playing
and have the original forum for chat threads anyway.

if need to concentrate on games, would just disable chat
but since a lot of times, play for fun,
would be happy to chat whatever allowed.... especially typing emotion code!

The same thing happened me. I was playing play money on a site and somebody got mad because I never said thanks to them telling me "nice hand". I don't need them to tell me I had a nice hand, me having their chips proves that :).

This is what pisses me off about chat...the guy who made the comment basically took easy money away from everyone at the table...personally I.target those players because any true winning poker.player knows you.want those "retards" at your table...obviously that guys head is not in the right spot...

I never say nice play to donks.

I WILL say nh though if they suck out on me -- and mean it, too, with absolutely zero resentment. Here's why:

1) When a fish calls off 95o and hits 2p on the river, technically speaking that IS a nice hand because a hand is a completed 5-card hand, and 2-pairs is in fact a pretty nice hand.
2) when a fish calls down 2 streets with middle pair no kicker, 4 out of 5 times the unthreatening 5 river is genuinely unthreatening, and if they called 2 streets they'll usually call a 3rd anyway. Which means the hand was HUGELY +EV for me. I want him to hit his sweet 2pair because he will pay me off all the other times he misses.
3) the cards are blind and ultimately even out. Getting a nice hand is something a player cannot control (the only thing they can control is relinquishing shitty ones), so ultimately saying "nice hand" is not a genuine compliment, because you aren't complimenting the player but the hand. If the player had played well he'd never had seen the river with that hand.

So nh is really a backhanded insult that everyone thinks is a compliment. I get to encourage the fish and lol at them all at the same time. Win-win. :D

lol, tonight I was told to "go die from AIDS" after a particularly fun hand. Best thing, in my mind, was it wasn't even a bad beat. We were both deepish (~180xbb) and the CO 3-bet my MP-open. I had 33. Normally, this is a fold, but this deep against a player who didn't like to fold over-pairs, I figured I had implied odds.

Flop 3-Q-9... I check, he bets, I raise, he over-shoves the pot. I call. He has KQo. I'm sorry. That's not even a bad beat. That's just really, really over-playing KQo in just about every spot.

Then he tells me to die from aids and rage quits the table. This is why I leave chat on. I was having a pretty bad session on other table, but a comment like that can turn my attitude right around. Nothing like a good deep laugh to shake away a few bad hands.

LoL 'Poker Court' < no justice.... just like real court

I chat in private games (when not on a bunch of tables) but try to refrain otherwise.

Great responses.....I love the "Go die of AIDS" - My response "That I caught off you when you were face down on the mattress mwah"

And the scaring players off being nasty is wrong....Rule 1 : "DON'T TAP THE GLASS, YOU WILL SCARE THE FISH"

If you ever see anyone talking in a cash game, mark his as a donk. simple as that. good players nowadays dont have time for small talk when playing.

Chances are if someone types anything into the chat in a cash game that they are single tabling and are fish. Fact.
