Holy shit that's annoying. I'm so tilted the Lakers lost or dealing with my boss has got me on tilt. Stop using poker slang in your everyday life. It makes me want to smack you with a giant fish. And I don't mean a bad poker player but a real tuna upside your head.

Well the usage of those terms seems to be more of our generation of Internet, Gaming, Poker, Slangs, Abbreviations... Also, we are getting languages mixed between them! The only thing is that sometimes it can sound annoying to people that doesn't know the terms!

Thanks for proving my point. It's true I play the unorthodox donk style.

Or when they use it in the wrong context which is anytime it's used outside of poker.

Tilt comes from pinball not poker.

But used as slang to refer to a frazzled state of mind comes from poker and should be left there.

Why waste your nerves and time on completely insignificant things? Maybe it's better to spend energy on something really important?:)

Tilted

I'm on tilt because of this thread :) In fact, this slang is spoken in all the gaming industry. Why should it bother you that a person says / writes not a bad word (which cannot be offended) anywhere?

As already mentioned, you can get tilted playing pinball and I think the expression is transferrable to any game or sport where a competitor is frustrated into making a mistake..

However, if you have some signs made up depicting all the things you decree we should stop doing and have them put up around the place it might help us be aware of and obey your commands.

Speaking of commands (segue riff :thrasher:) if you click 'multi quote' on all the posts you wish to reply to (and 'quote & reply' on the final one), you will be able to reply to all those selected in one post and keep the forums looking fresh! :five:

Tilt comes from pinball not poker.

Are you sure about that? I always thought it came from cow tipping, such as when the cow refused to completely fall, it was said to go on "tilt." However, Tommy, I'll defer to your expertise … :D:D:D

Since this thread is about the language we use outside of poker maybe it should be in the community forums.

It sure does.

Does that mean I can't call a Tilting Excavator by its name.

Does it also mean I can't call a tilt tray tow truck by its name also. Where do we draw the line on the use of tilt and tilting. :dontknow:

Thanks for proving my point. It's true I play the unorthodox donk style.
What point.

Playing like a donk is not a style of poker, be it orthodox or unorthodox.

:ciao:
Or when they use it in the wrong context which is anytime it's used outside of poker.

See answer above re Tilting Excavator and Tilt tray tow truck.

But used as slang to refer to a frazzled state of mind comes from poker and should be left there.
Please refer to previous replies re tilt coming from pinball.

Now stop tilting everyone with your opinions.

What a stupid thing to argue about. Especially while any poker player would be greatful if the game of poker gets out of the dark rooms. Language can be a first way to make a phenomen a part of a (pop) culture. Making such terms mainstream should actually be in anyones intrest.

I really can't remember hearing anyone use it in another context. Suppose it depends on which country your from.

I'm from the UK and have never heard anyone use it outside of poker

I don't see any reason why people who are related to poker could not use certain words from their poker in everyday life.
