The only poker superstition, I have, if you could call it that, is how I stack my chips. I don't have them piled in one group, but in two stacks about 6 - 8 inches apart, but not interfering with other players This is my "gate" through which my winning chips pour (hopefully). I was in a game, in Las vegas of all places, when the dealer said I couldn't stack my chips like that, but had to have them all together. He seemed a bit flustered when I asked him to quote the rule stating this and he came up with nothing.
I have trawled the rules of Holdem poker but have failed to come up with an answer to this.
I need your help here. Is there a rule on how to stack your chips? I would appreciate it.
Thanks

In cash games it's usually 20 chips to a stack.

Robert's Rules of Poker version 11 only briefly mentions chip stacking under Section 1 - Proper Behavior; subsection Poker Etiquette:

"The following actions are improper, and grounds for warning, suspending, or barring a violator........

......Stacking chips in a manner that interferes with dealing or viewing cards......"

This really sounds like something left to House Rules upon a complaint. They don't even address such simple commonplace "violations" like hiding your big chips or dirty stacks. :dontknow:

Although, I only play online, but I am convinced that stacking chips in a live game does not significantly affect the player's results.

You were fine.

For some reason the dealer was annoyed by it and tried to get you to do something else.

Other players at the table need to be able to determine approximately how many chips you have. That is it. You can stack chips in stacks of 15 20 25 30 or any other uniform number. And of course large denomination chips need to be visible as a separate stack in front - or on top of your stack.

I get fooled when a player keeps 1/3 of his stack in front of him. And 2/3 of his stack at his left elbow (more than 6-8 inches apart). And I assume that the smaller stack is all he has and the larger stack belongs to his neighbor. Ugh!

Good luck !

I do not know at the expense of cash games but during the tournament you need to add the chips so that all players and the dealer can count your stack!

I think this is a house rules issue as others have said. If the pit boss didn't come over and tell you what's what, I think you were fine. The dealer just had a hair up his *ss.
I haven't watched much poker on TV in the last few years. But it used to be Phil Hellmuth was always testing limits with how he kept his chips. It was like he was having a little tantrum or something. lol I'm sure you could find video on youtube.

I don't have any particular way I stack except by denomination. It you situation with that dealer I would have called for the pit boss immediately and questioned him on the dealers comment. That would of been the end of it and you would of known 100%. Good luck to you at the tables.

You were in the right. The main rule of stacking chips at the table is to make it able for other players to get a sense of how many you got at a glance.

That means, first of all, you stack ships and do not have them just laying around randomly on the felt. Secondly, stacks of chips should be of the same value. Thirdly, all of your stacks should be visible, if not entirely possible (which is often) your stacks of chips of the highest denominations have to be visible entirely while those of lesser denominations can be partly obscured. Thirdly, you stack chips in a way that does not invade the space of other players at the table and finally that your stacks of chips do not hide your cards in a way that other players can not even see if you are in the hand or not.

Those are the general rules of thumb for stacking chips at a poker table that 100% of floors observe. I worked as a poker dealer for a while hence am familiar. Your arrangement while not 'default' is not in any violation of stacking chips.

Since dealers rely heavily on tips, it makes sense for them to cut players as much slack as they can at the table, so either it was a house rule that the dealer had to enforce or the dealer was in a particularly bad mood to be willing to start an argument with a player over a petty issue like that.

Hello budy, how are you
Look at me is the question of helping each other to stack their chips in a way that the dealer and the other players can count their chips just by looking at them to make the game easier and faster. Type values over equal values and the amount of stacks does not interfere but stacking anyway will get attention not only by the dealer but by other players. To play Poker leave the mess of your mind behind.:):driver:
