what is your special diet if you have one? what would you recommend?

Specifically, I am looking for things to improve mental focus and endurance.

Diet does not play a special role here. The main recipe for improving and stable functioning of mental concentration when playing poker is a clear daily routine. Go to bed and get up on time! Sleep should be at least 8 hours.

This is a great starting point, but if you don't have good diet and exercise to go with it your reserves will certainly run out!

I'm so happy you asked this as I am in holistic nutrition school to learn this exact kind of stuff!

The more important thing that what to eat, is what to avoid.
Be very careful with the following (and ideally avoid all of it)
-Process food
-Food high in trans fat
-Foods high in sugar

The issue with sugar is that it will spike your blood sugar, making you hyper and then making you crash. It can also put your body into a 'fight or flight' state which inhibits your ability to think logically and rationally.

The processed foods have irritants in them which the body doesnt like and sometimes can't digest, thereby causing that same fight or flight mode and just making you a little sluggish.

The trans fats have a whole whack of issues and affect cell functioning negatively.

As for what to eat, it's good to mix protein and fats with your carbs to ensure a steady supply of energy rather than the quick and crash which comes from sweets.

Make sure you're getting a good amount of fibre and a good amount of movement so that your digestion and bowels are functioning properly. There's nothing worse than not going poop for days because you're not moving and because you're in a stress state.

In terms of supplements for focus, there are many. Green Tea is a solid clean energy and Gingko Biloba is great for short term boost (late in a tournament for example). Vitamin B12 taken sublingually is one of the best sources of energy I've found (and there's no toxicity sign so you can take as much as you want).

The key is always to not overdo it, and ensure you have that solid rest routine to keep your system stable. online poker has a way of getting people into a very amped up state (especially if multitabling) and so having a cooldown routine like yoga or walking in the park is a great balance.

I'll have a lot more specifics in the future as I'm still early on in the program. But the main thing is combining your attention on both diet AND lifestyle. Diet gives you the building blocks for having high focus and good energy, but lifestyle, exercise, rest and all that is what enables your body to actually be able to make use of the building blocks you've provided it.

Double fishburger in the morning, grilled donkey brain during the day and some shark milk before going to bed. Yummy!

A bar of chocolate to work the brain, a cup of coffee tones. You can repeat it.

My diet is low-fat and high carbs. Carbs help the brain function better. I work out a lot, so my diet is basically bodybuilding food. In the morning, oatmeals with peanut butter and berries and scrambled eggs. A lot of bread, rice + chicken/fish/meat. Before poker session, I eat fruits (sugar gives energy) and one piece of dark chocolate (reduce stress) + cup of coffee. During the session, I drink ONE beer, very slowly. Playing drunk is not a good idea, but one beer will make me relaxed.

The most important part is that I want to keep my diet simple. Many meals during the day, and of course a lot of water. Orthorexia sucks, so don't fall for that.

Having a healthy diet is definitely something you should strive for if you're going to do something that requires a high level of focus. Proper sleep is equally as important. A healthier lifestyle overall means you need less sleep to be able to perform at your peak. When you live a crappy lifestyle and eat poorly your body spends a lot of time and energy digesting and the foods you're digesting are not giving you the energy you need.

Personally, I don't like to talk about food issues because I think that should be spoken by a professional nutritionist. I see that many give advice without being professionals in the field. I do not doubt that they do not know about nutrition, I just think that we would avoid confusion. Eating right or wrong does not guarantee you to be a better or worse poker player, but it is always good to have healthy lifestyle habits for a better development in daily life.

I don't have any diet, but I believe that physical activities should give you a better performance, since your metabolism will be up to date and I believe that you will be more active and attentive at the poker tables, not to mention that we need physical and mental preparation, already that we will often play for 6 to 8 hours at least.

I like filling foods like steak, and I avoid caffeine. On stones live it seemed like players that ate salid ran better. It probably depends on the player.

Hello.
Healthy eating directly affects your physical and emotional state. But it is better to choose a diet on the recommendation of a specialist, taking into account your physiological data.

Large thanks for the informative story! Unfortunately, I never paid attention to my diet (maybe that's partly why I still ride micro-limits), but now I will stick to your advice!

Personally, it is difficult for me to follow a diet, because I have a non-standard and busy work schedule. But still, when I am at home I try to eat only healthy food. I would recommend that you eat more fruits and vegetables, and often walk in the fresh air.

Well in general the healthier you are the better your mind works. So if you eat healthy you should be able to play your best poker.

I play every day and I eat what I like, the advantage of playing poker is that it does not demand a great athletic condition with which you have the ability to play for 12 hours a day sitting comfortably, it is enough, so I do not believe in doing a special diet to play poker

Like to snack on blue berries while playing. Good enough balance to not feel full and doesn't spike sugar level. Try to stay hydrated and try move around during breaks.

Someone mention sleep, that is key along with positive mood.

The most important thing is to exercise and every hour when there is a break in the tournaments you need to stand up and stretch or run around your house.

Also do not eat too much of the unhealthy food. Drink plenty of water and some coffee/tea.
