What makes the difference between a donkey(monkey)
and a shark? Have you ever wondered which side of the
coin you might fall on? I have. I think about it a lot as
matter of fact, and i think i've come up with a few good
tips.

First let me say a shark is a fish, and sometimes he/she
can act like a really big fish. Most sharks i know do this
in a rope a dope fashion, usually to catch the unsuspecting
minnow. Hey, a sharks gotta eat.

Second shark does not waver. Unlike the dolphin, it does not
play. It is a predator, plain and simple. Nature and poker's
perfect killing and eating machine. It feels no sorrow at taking
your chips, no remorse at taking your money. It just takes it and
moves on.

Now the donkey, on the other hand, will have to gloat. He will of
necessity have to fall in love with his wonderful self. He will
think to himself, and may even say it out loud, "i am just great at
this game." It is this attitude which causes him to "donk off" his stack on those occasions when he is lucky enough to build one.

He is super aggressive almost to the point of being a maniac. There is
no rhyme or reason to his actions. He is dangerously unpredictable.

An honest assessment of one's own skills, is an absolute imperative to
any full time poker player. If you can't do it, or even if you think
you can, then ask a few friends who play for their honest no holds barred
opinion. And don't get defensive when they give it to you. As has often
been said before, almost everyone has a higher opinion of their skill level
than they should have.

LEARN, ACCEPT, AND LEARN SOME MORE. Because you only need reasonable intelligence to be a winner. Read, and reread everything in the learning poker section of this forum. You too can be a shark or at least a nasty barracuda.:):)

ahh donks, i love to talk shat to them. Especially when they call by 4x the bb pre-flop raise with a q8 (full 9 player table and was not in the blinds) and luckily flop a set of queens versus my pocket jacks. Then i stupidly pay him off ( gonna fix this leak, trust me) and berate him for the rest of the short time he played. Telling him i was gunning for him, making him think i am on tilt and letting my emotions affect my play. Then to suck him in, with a re-raise battle pre and post-flop with pocket rockets and absolutely demolish his A10....Stupid fish. Don't mess with me.

Make them think i am on tilt. I do it all the time against donks and they give me all their chips. When people think you are tilting (acting), they will not respect your big raises or all-ins. Works for me so far.

I should prolly stop shat-talking though. Get back to respectful poker etiquette.

The new folks are forgetting this is a community.

Just the other day someone posted some stuff to instigate people and a mod banned them.

It's fine to talk trash with friends for fun. But maybe we're not all friends just yet. It's something to consider.

I would love to eliminate the term "donk" from the poker community.

Well thread author attacked me for no reason! If he doesn't agree with my opinions, that is fine, but he should certainly employ more tact and diplomacy when disagreeing with them!

In another post you say you are new to poker and then you come in to this post and talk like an old time pro. That's why i said you are not to bright.:p:p:p

I AM NEW TO online poker FOR real money. Not poker in general. Get it right. I never claimed to be an 'old pro". But i do make a nice profit and i am on my way to being a fairly successful poker player in the long-term. Don't hate

And that's reason to tell him he's too stupid to respond to?

This is a friendly community. You may disagree with what he's saying but that's no reason to name call.

Ok , i may have been out of line. But i wrote a simple little article about my thoughts on the difference between good and bad players and it got hijacked by someone wanting or needing to brag on himself.

I've almost never met an online poker player who was both really good and used the term "donk"

I think the bad players would still give the chips regardless of if they think you are tilting or not.

Thats why they are of the fish nature. Never do they even consider respecting your raises in the first place....

Well, you were talking poo. Talk poo and invite poo back. It's cool though. Just one thing to remember. New to internet poker but not new to poker still doesn't mean you'll definitely win steadily long term. A lot of famous pros are learning the hard way. It's kind of fun to go and watch them lose more money than I've ever had at any one time.

I'm just saying, if you're new, just give it time. Confidence is good. Too much confidence can leave you crushed.

I'm not wishing you bad luck. Just hoping you'll have some more patience. Just sitting at the wrong table, on the bad night, with the wrong cards that would normally be the right cards, can put you on really bad tilt.

Just a bit of warning, because when ya win early, it really does feel like you can't lose.

Will do. Now if you've actually figured out a foolproof way to prevent tilt, please write an article. I know I'm dying to read it.

^^might have sounded snarky but I really do wanna read it.
