I think that is one of the many secrets to master in the game is not only knowing how to bluff but also detecting when you are bluffing and knowing how to control your stack of chips the important thing of the game is not to win all the hands in which you participate if not know how to lose the pussy in each one of them.

Putting those things together, with a deep understanding of the game, allows you to evaluate if you are in a spot where a bluff might work, against the person (people) in the hands with you.

THEN you have decided if that moment is your moment. Then you have to take your hard earned chips (and reputation) and put them on the line.

Sometimes, you're kissing those chips goodbye. And that HAS TO BE OK in that moment.

This is, of course, a seriously watered down version.

In my opinion bluff is rated too high as a tool to win hand by the new players. It is advanced technique which really can win some hands where you have no showdown value but it is not something easy and definitely should not be considered something for frequent use. If you want your bluff to be successful you should have built some image on the table and represent certain hand so that other players believe that you have the nuts. If you constantly try to bluff other players will learn it very soon and bust you.

Well a bluff can be used when you feel the opponent is in a position to be taken advantage of.

Sometimes you give the impression of a bluff and get called when you have the nuts.

But patience is just another asset you use to wait for the right move or opening,and its something i have to remind myself about throughout the long game

Position Position Position the most important part of the game this is where you bluff. You cant really bluff when you are UTG because too many people act after you. The main 3 places you bluff is Button , Cut Off and Hijack. The reason for this is you are the last to act. Lets say You are in Cut off everyone has folded to you and you bet 3xBB Button folds , Small Blind folds , Big Blind calls which they often do to protect the blinds. Flop comes BB checks you bet 3xBB if big blind has missed which they probably will have when they check you bet they fold. This is a common move in poker so when its reversed and your the big blind you reraise 6xBB and Cut off folds (If they are trying to steal). Poker really is a game of chess and you have to be one move in front of your opponents.

OK, Great advice here, watch what I do. "THEN DO NOT DO IT". I plan and plan, then pick my moment to pounce with a bluff. I missed my straight, for an example, but I bluff it with a large raise. Every time my opponent has been slow playing me with a FH or trips or something. I can not seem to pick the right time or even no how too.
