Many players have a favorite hand and even the pros often have a favorite/signature hand for one memorable reason or another. Just curious if anyone can contribute so I can get a list of some hands from some well known poker players. (Feel free to share your own favorites too)

Here are some I got so far:

Phil Hellmuth: Favorite Hand: "two black nines" because 9s9c is what he won the 1989 wsop Main Event with.

Alec Torelli: Favorite Hand: "Jack-Ten (especially diamonds)" because he used to win a lot of pots with this hand "when he shouldn't" during his small homegames long before he turned professional in poker.

Doyle Brunson: Favorite Hand: T2 probably because he won two WSOP Main Events with this hand! (Ts2s in 1976 and Ts2h in 1977) Nowadays this "Doyle Hand" has a lot of bluff appeal like 72o just because it is an objectively trash hand with a history. Playing this is basically saying: "Look, I can bluff and win with anything!"

Chris Moneymaker: Favorite Hand: Not 100% about this one, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was AQ because that was what he held just outside of the Final Table against Phil Ivey's pocket 9 hand. Moneymaker got a lucky suckout on the River and that hand propelled him to winning the famous 2003 WSOP Main Event.

Anyone have a list of some other famous players and hands they love?

I think I remember watching a stream from Daniel Negreanu where he said that 10 7 is his favourite hand

Cool - there must be a story behind this I imagine...

Bump. It has been about one month since any new comments. I'm still curious if anyone has a few more "signature hands" to contribute to this list :)

Maybe you should be asking for most memorable hand. Any poker pro's favorite hand is AA - if they haven't figured out yet that the best starting hand is AA then they wouldn't be pros.

They may have hands they like in very specific circumstances against specific players - but that doesn't make it their favorite hand overall. Or hands they will always remember because it won them the main event or some large tournament - but that is different than being a favorite hand. :)

:)

for every amateur player as well as for me some strong big double cards like AA KK QQ JJ 1010 are good, but I also like to try other combinations, and I think it depends on the position on the table and the mood and the amount of money to play :)

I'm still curious why that uncommon hand is his favorite, but I just watched a clip where Negreanu mentions his favorite hand is "seven of diamonds and ten of clubs, specifically."

Mentions it at 10:00 into the clip.

Good to see my memory was correct [emoji16]
No clue as to why those suits in particular. Maybe he won his first tournament with this hand?

The best hands are the ones that go the way you plan and a bad beat doesn't knock you down, for me community cards or flushes are excellent hands to win good pots.
