Is it possible to have another poker boom? With so many bots and cheats ruining the game people and moving away from online.

I think the number of games and players will decrease.

poker sites must do serious steps to be more reliable.I think it is their interest and at the same time our interest, but when will they understand?

Poker sites really need to crack down on bots. Another boom is coming once the US legalizes online poker in every state. But that boom will be short-lived if people hear about bots. By taking care of the bots now, the sites can essentially guarantee that the boom will last.

Noticed it for a long time, it becomes more difficult to play, and it is not possible to have fun.Unfortunately it's true, poker is dying...

nothing lasts forever, but poker time is still running and there will always be enough hunters for dreams and luck online and in live events
maybe something grand will happen to start a new boom

It will only take someone to do a "Moneymaker" for there to be another boom. There has already been a slow resurgence of the game in the last year or so, but it needs to be a big trigger to really kick start it again.

To create a new poker boom, all you have to do is legalize poker in all US states :D

I think that history is periodic and poker should revive, of course, for this some kind of event must happen, for example, the ability to track bots or huge competition among poker offline rooms or their accessibility for everyone.

Buy definition a boom must have some triggering events that leads to a period of great, rapid economic growth.

1. For poker it was that poker got televised and the Moneymaker won the main event (an American with a great name win the biggest tournament while on TV - wow). Some even say the movie Rounders played a role prior to that.

2. Online sites/software maid it possible to play for very little (or a lot) fast and easy from your own home from your computer.

3. A lot of the western world got interested in the game via newspaper articles, advertising online and TV. It was cool and fun to play poker.

Sadly the chance of something above happening in the first place is very small.

Now you also have the problem with bots, AI and collusion online.

The good thing is that poker is still much bigger than is was before the boom.

And live poker will be good for many years to come.

I’ve said it for a while now and I still think it’s true, even if it hasn’t really built momentum at all just yet—I think the next great poker boom will be with a tremendous influx of women playing poker!

I realize that this boom is sadly, by most official accounts—such as the number of women in the wsop is not happening just yet. I think it is going to take a couple of things at least, but they’re both things that I think are far more likely than not to happen in our lifetime:

1.) A “likable” woman making the final table and better still, winning the wsop main event—preferably in a year with high attendance or more media coverage than normal. Our female Chris Moneymaker if you will :)

2.) Poker companies-or at least a couple of major ones-recognizing the extreme long-term potential of women playing poker and choosing to cater to them (not above catering to men of course, just ALSO catering to women). Stars used to have an amazing women’s following that I was really sad to see them quietly cut years ago—I wrote an open letter to them that wound up getting quite a bit of hate from random people lol, but I still feel the way I did back when I wrote it.

I do believe the stars will align and this will all happen one day, even if not for a while! :)

We could have another mini-boom. I doubt it will be like the early 2000s.

Its difficult to predict the future, but overall poker does not seem to be doing that badly with this years WSOP main event nearly setting a new record. For online poker there are some challenges for sure, and I would put government regulations higher on the list than bots, colluders or AI software.

Poker sites are forced to pull out of market after market, and player pools are being segregated, even where online poker is legal. And of course this is not good for online poker. Its also not new and interesting, like it was 15 years ago, and with all the knowledge, material and software out there, games are never again going to become soft, like they were in the beginning.

But there are still recreational players coming on the tables to have some fun and donate their money to sharks, just not quite as many perhaps, as there was in the beginning :)

When all those states in america prohibited online gambling every online game was affected i use to play Raceclubs which is a virtual horse racing game and because the prohibition or tighter regs surrounding online gambling it took a major downswing. Poker has been round a long time and is here to stay things will change again soon. In the UK the regulations are having a strangle hold put on them now but i think the revenue from online gambling for the goverment is huge and this will make them reluctant to stop it alltogether.

I also think that you look at poker and its one off the easier ways to become a millionaire. If you can use your skills and trust your senses in the game you have a chance. I have just spent 5 hours watching the pokerstars Carribean Adventure and Greenwood shoved all in bar a 5k chip lost the hand but with that 5k chip managed to ladder up quite a few more places. Chino made a massive fold on day 3 but still left him short stacked grinded onto the final table and just went into bulldozer mode and rolled over everyone.

The record, or near record, registration level at this past WSOP was shocking. I don't know what that says about the state of poker. I can only speak about where I live, which is in Vancouver. Several casinos, including my local casino, have either dropped poker altogether or have shrunken their poker rooms. My local casino used to have a cheap morning tournament, which was designed to bring in traffic, and that went away a couple of years ago. Most of the casual players, those influenced by the boom on television, have gone away.

Are bots really threatening the online poker? I don't think so. Poker rooms can easily detect them.
Bots are available in open market. Anyone can buy. What poker room has to do is buy a sample of each bot that comes into market. Study them and incorporate a tool in their system which can detect them. I think all major poker rooms have their own qualified and specialized software engineers who can perform these jobs.
It should be a continuous job. Always looking to capture bots. If this happens then the players who use bots to make money will soon find that the money they invested in purchasing a bot is a wastage. Plus they might have to face law enforcing agencies and to pay compensations and refunds.
This will also in turn effect the open market of bots.

I totally agree the casinos around here use to have tournaments every single day but now a lot of the casinos only seem to have a cash table and a couple of tournaments a week. Maybe it isnt all down to downswing in poker maybe it is the money people lost playing roulette or blackjak that caused or is causing people not to want to play at a casino. When i do go to the casino i take enough for 2 buyins because i would lose my clothes on that roulette wheel.

I don't really know what to say. It is unfortunate that for many years American players cannot play online poker due to legislative problems. It's paradoxical in a way because live poker is thriving in the US we all know that Vegas is the world capital of live poker. I know that some players after "black friday" chose to move to canada or mexico but many were unable to play online because of the ban. I still hope they find a solution because it would revitalize the online poker game if americans will come back.

Is it possible to have another poker boom? With so many bots and cheats ruining the game people and moving away from online.

Yes ofc. 3 steps are needed for new poker boom. Many players leave poker for different reasons, steps below can prevent players from leaving online poker and can make online gambling much more fair for the players.

1) Change rake to subscriptions, 10$ per month or 1$ per 24hrs spent in the poker room. Why? Because obviously there is no difference for a computer when it hosts a freeroll or 1.1MTT or $109MTT for 1K players. In all cases server will consume less than 1$ of energy and traffic. From any poker regs point of view it will be a good addition to his profit... Today poker rooms are robbing all players and biggest profit losses have players who play more games per day.

2) Change hidden algorythms and make them public. If it's 100% random and it's 100% legit, has no backend, no admins playing, no bots from pokerrooms side, then all code must be open source. Maybe blockchain can be used.

3) Ban HUDs and add streaming video from webcams to mid-high limits, so that players can recognise each other and see that they're not agains some AI. This way players will have to make notes and keep in mind info on their opponents. And also players will know for sure who their opponents are.
