Online Players VS Live Players

There were stories about how “live players” who tried to play online poker, argued that this is not real poker. Online players, on the contrary, experienced difficulties with real cards, chips and lack of knowledge about etiquette at the table.
At present, the situation is different and most professional players play poker both live and on the Internet.
Skills acquired in one format can be easily transferred to another.

I think there are different skills between the two ways of playing poker. Each one requires a different way of playing and relating to opponents, so it is difficult to compare the two players.

live players are much better in my world. You can see more easily what is going to happen, much less blindsited action. Basically, the psychological and general knowledge of the player comes into play much more in a live game.

To be honest I prefer to play live, I can read my "enemies" better, i can interact with them easier and so on.

I have not played in a live poker. Watched tournaments, I think I live poker is not suitable. I quickly read in live poker. I think that the players are in the best players live than online.

My opinion

The average on-line player is more skilled. This is because things happen on-line that don't happen in live game. You have to remember the situation and the computer pattern to stop the situation. Probability and critcal thinking needed. In live game its just probability.

who is more skilled average live player or average online player?

It is hard to quantify "average", but here is what I know:

In the live tournaments I have played, i have cashed 18% of the time.
In the online tournaments where I have bought in for some amount (not freerolls), i have cashed 31% of the time.

This tells me that at the stakes i play, live play is harder and has more skilled players. I keep diligent records so I know this data for my play is fairly accurate.

In live tournaments there are rarely players that know nothing about poker, whereas I had seen some players play online in a way that it almost seems like their pet had logged into their account and is just pressing buttons. Also, let me be Sherlock here, bluffing online vs bluffing in person is uncomparably different.

This is the eternal debate who is better. Online players think that online is more difficult, offline players think that offline. But the truth is, as always, somewhere around. You need to mix online and offline. Personally, I can play offline for 14 hours, if I play 14 hours of online tables 10 then I will be squeezed like a lemon.

Live poker is much more difficult. Playing live you have to memorize a lot more then online. Players actions , opening and defending ranges , fold push. Online you can have a hud on that tells you what players do and in what position they did.

Each game has its particularity, I think both styles can not be compared to the same person can be the same type of player in both situations depends on the ability to adapt and level of play.

I have never played live, but I would just say with 0 experience that live players have to be more skilled.

Idk why but I just feel like you need more experience to play live and more confidence.

in person poker

Personally I do not have much experience with poker at casinos, I have played a couple of cash games in a casino but low stakes and it went average, folded a QQ with higher kicker than my opponent on a wrong read with a chance of straight on the table and i think there was a chance of flush also, I played a tournament once but not too much people.

In my opinion when you play poker in person it is really hard and is a more bluff based poker since you have a lot of information from the players reactions that can tell you where you are standing.

When it comes to online poker I have found that the use of the time clock and the size of the bets are pretty much all the information you have regarding your opponent so you have to play a lot more based on the cards you get than on bluffing (still you can bluff a lot) and you do not have to worry about your reactions if you have a great hand or if you are bluffing hard.

However obviously the online player gains a lot more experience in a faster time since he can play significantly more than the average in person player and the online player can also play in multiple tournaments at the same time.

In difficulty I would say that currently based on my experience in person poker but I do not have enough experience in that area in big tournaments to be sure.

In my experience online players are tighter preflop Due the faster game and ability to multi table, players are more selective preflop.
Live play is so much slower and having to sit at one table that it’s really boring waiting for premium hands I see looser preflop play with live players
But skill level postflop is more about the individual player I think I encounter skilled postflop live and online players equally

Different observation
Online -that durrrrr guy has a VPIP of 39with PFR of 31 and high Agro
Live. -that Tom guy is bit loose aggressive preflop but has this weird way off holding his breathing and looking like he having a seizure when he’s weak.

Preference for live, it can read your opponent in the eye and the body, the online reading you have few options and players really change your game mode

I would say the online players. Online players play more hands than the live players. But experienced live players might be able to spot tells that online players would not be able to.

I would have to tentatively agree with this. Before I even played a single live hand with real chips I probably had over 10,000 played hands online and hundreds of Tourney/Sit and Gos. I wonder though, if my lack of real play led to me losing to players that could read any tells and such that I may not have even known I was projecting. Hrmmm..... ;)

I have found, however, that you CAN get tells and also PROJECT the type of player you want them to think you are by using Chat and to some extent showing cards on either folds (before Show or Win). So Online play you can sort of craft how you want to be seen (which can alter they way they treat your Play). Yeah... :)

Good Luck all! :)
