Recently I’ve been running bad with AJ.

Anybody have any recent or memorable experiences
where you had AJ and it saved you?

Thank U 4 Posting

AJ is a good hand to have versus Villains that play any Ax hand and play it passively when they have only one pair.

Versus tighter players we cannot expect them to be playing A8-A6 that often so we are not dominating that many hands so we have to be cautious when making top pair.

A good rule of thumb with AJ is aim for 2 streets of value not 3 streets unless you have a good read on the villain. What that means is we are going to be calling flop -call turn -fold river to Villains we know would not bet 3 times with worse.

Another concept is the 3 bet fold preflop with AJ versus an average player. If we think about what range our V 4 bet with seldom is AJ a call. Again this is read dependent.
Do not forget though that when some V call it is not because their hand is weak but their play is. When called we again are not looking to stack off-read and player dependent of course.

AJ is also a good bluff catcher and thin value call downs versus river betters- so we can check call in some situations. We again need to know our V will thin value bet rivers as well as bluff them.

Lastly while we are cautious versus most of the field with this hand -if we have a player we know has Ax top pair worse than ours and does not fold rivers there is no reason not to bomb rivers to make up for our cautious play versus others. 1.2 pot is a common river bomb if this V will call it. Experiment with Pot sized bets and larger versus this type of player-see what they will call. They may even call 3x pot with a sticky Ax.

Hope this helps
