So I am moving to Las Vegas to pursue my dream of being a poker pro. I have been playing poker since 2003, consistent winner in home games, consistent winner at local casinos, have made several Vegas trips with profitable results at the poker table. I have an antiques business which i could continue to operate in Las Vegas so money flow wouldnt be a problem to begin with. Can anyone share their story or give advice from when they moved to Vegas/California/etc to become pro. Other than the obvious advice. Thanks in advance. Jon

I have no advice, but best of luck to you there! It's a good thing to keep your business open just in case though. Tell us how it all works out!:)

I think you're on the wrong forum if you're trying to find professional poker players.

Nice that you have a business to fall back on...I like Los Angeles a little better to run as a Professional since LV is much tighter play and Los Angeles offers more tables and variety of games all 7 days of week.

If nothing else, make sure you get out to LA on many occassions to get some playing time in.

Best of Luck

Questions:

1) Do you have at least one years living expenses saved up?

2) In addition, are you rolled for $200-$500 NLHE or $8/$16 LHE?

3) Are you debt free?

4) Do you make more playing poker or with your business?

5) What limits are you currently beating?

Thanks for all the well wishers. I forgot to add that my wife is moving with me and she plans on being a cocktail waitress, lol.

Yes I have living expenses, MY BR is about $140,000, I am 99% debt free, currently beating $5/$10/$25 PLO, Various casino games from $1 $2 NLH to $10 $20 NLH and some mixed games. Just started palying stud.

I will keep you guys posted, lets see what happens.

Questions:

1) Do you have at least one years living expenses saved up?

2) In addition, are you rolled for $200-$500 NLHE or $8/$16 LHE?

3) Are you debt free?

4) Do you make more playing poker or with your business?

5) What limits are you currently beating?

Best of luck to you... I am also from Los Angeles and moved out to Las Vegas last year to try to pursue the same thing... I just recently started winning constantly out here and it's much better than California or Los Angeles actually because that's where I'm from... I'm sure you already realized the huge difference with the rake in local casinos out here and California.. It's much easier to make money out here but you got to choose the right games and stay away from the good players.... Sounds like you have a back up plan and steady income besides you're poker so looks good for you and good luck to you.....

...to me it sounds like you have all of the ingredients to success...you havent just won 2 big tourneys in a week and said "hey this is easy",..
my only adivce (kinda 3rd party advice)..look at it long term
dont give up as soon as you hit a downslide.(hope you sont hit one)...my friend found it tough out there the first few months, especially after the honeymoon period of being in vegas...it can be hard to play poker and just poker...dont exhaust yourself, and make sure when u wake up u wanna play it,///
other than that,, go win...wont say gl, im sure you dont need it...ill check for your name on wiki in a year :)

Best of luck! Your wife sounds kinda awesome for being willing to relocate and work the casino scene! Also, it sounds like you have everything in place. Let us know how it goes!

One little thing I learned the last time I was in Vegas. All of the hospitality folks are Union workers. Make sure your wife is cool with that.

Otherwise, take your best shot, and good cards.
