loos in England are bathrooms in America
bins in England are trashcans in America
jumpers in England are sweaters in America (and this one can get an Englishman in big trouble over here cause jumpers in America are dresses lol)

I look at Webster as a book of suggested spellings. If you can't think of at least two ways to spell a word, you need to work on your creativity. :icon_porc

When in doubt, just add a "u" to the word like the Brits do. ;) :p :D

I don't know about you guys and "ladys" but when I just typed in ladies wrong back there either my browser automatically underlined it in red, aka "spell check" or it was cardchat doing it. Either way. I haven't the slightest idea why people are spelling things wrong all the time when there is spell check built in. Maybe its just Mozilla? Who knows. Give it a try.

I have a spelling checker -
It came with my PC.
It plane lee marks four my revue
Miss steaks aye can knot sea.
Eye ran this poem threw it,
Your sure reel glad two no.
Its vary polished in it's weigh,
My checker tolled me sew.
A checker is a bless sing,
It freeze yew lodes of thyme.
It helps me right awl stiles two reed,
And aides me when aye rime.
To rite with care is quite a feet
Of witch won should be proud.
And wee mussed dew the best wee can,
Sew flaws are knot aloud.
And now bee cause my spelling
Is checked with such grate flare,
Their are know faults with in my cite,
Of nun eye am a wear.
Each frays come posed up on my screen
Eye trussed to bee a joule
The checker poured o'er every word
To cheque sum spelling rule.
That's why aye brake in two averse
By righting wants too pleas.
Sow now ewe sea why aye dew prays
Such soft wear for pea seas

 Spelling is one thing, but writing in poetic form up there is obviously another. I guess there's no program to help the "impaired" about that. BTW, too overdone IMO.

Websters is, of course, considered anathema outside of the US. I've seen newspaper style guides that specifically forbid its use. Sooooo many z's where there should be an s... and that's just the beginning! *sigh*

Just me again, in america they refer to lorries as either "trucks" or "semi" (not going into the plural of semi) In england referring to a semi would probably be associated with houses eg: semi-detached...

semi-detached?
so... it's attached?

this is a duplex, right?

Yes duplex

semi-detached?

this is a duplex, right?

After my wife just explained this to me yes semi-detached in england (meaning only one side of your house is connected to the neighbour's house) is a duplex in america.
Ok now that little red line comes up under the words ok, america, and neighbours, all spelt correctly I thought, damn spelt has a red line under it too, what's wrong with that??? I give up

Tony:)

"Rediculous" drives me up the wall. And I can't stand it on poker forums when people complain when they "loose" a hand.

Loose and lose are the worst as they have completely different meanings, along with to and too.

He was playing too loose.
He was playing to lose.
