Greetings All,

I managed to drum up some interest in the largest newspaper in MA. Here's the URL for the article...Made front page news!

Patrick legislation aims to make Internet gambling illegal - The Boston Globe

All In,

Randy C~
MA PPA Rep

From the article above:

"Patrick's provision, which is described in three paragraphs of the bill, applies to anyone in Massachusetts who places or receives a wager of any type using a telephone, cellphone, Internet, or local wireless networks. It also applies to anyone who knowingly installs equipment for transmitting wagers. The provision also specifically exempts the proposed casinos from the law."

Your ISP can know you are "gambling" if they trace the IPs. Would that not be "... knowingly installs equipment ..."?

What if a Starbucks employee sees you playing poker using their local wireless network? Now they know, and they installed the equipment.

Wager of any type: If you buy a stock, is that not wagering? How about a futures contract? Or selling short an option on a futures contract?

Or how about the former CEO of Merill Lynch who gambled billions on junk mortgages, lost billions for the company, hundreds of thousands of people lost their homes. Is that not gambling? And for his incompetency, he was given $200 million when they fired him. I bet he used phones for that gamble.

The difference is clear: When the regular person loses in the stock market, the futures market, in a casino, the ruling class is the beneficiary. With an Internet casino, they are not. It is all about self-interest and control.

This law is a typical manifestation of corpocracy: the state works with corporations to advance their mutual interests for power and profits.

It never ceases to amaze me how easily people surrender their rights, especially when they are taken little by little. Then a point of time comes when it is too late to take them back because the "democratic" power base is too erroded.

I really hope more people pay attention to this and try to stop the hypocrisy. There are far too many times people give up their rights because they just don't want to have to bother with being accountable and then cry when they can't do anything. Ugh makes me sick.
If I had known more about Indiana I wouldn't have accepted a contract that sent me here, I would have chosen another contract location.

Nothin much. WTF's up with that Red Green show. Oh. The laughs.

It just comes to show you that MASS is one of the most F'd up states along with WV's inbreeding and the gun wheeling Texans! ;) Not a surprise IMO. Afterall, everyone needs a gimmick. It's too bad banning online poker will be added to MASS's already long list of faux pas. Get off your World Series/Superbowl parade winning arses and stand up for you right to look at naked girlies and play online poker!

I am convinced that the only reason that online gambling/poker playing is still illegal is because the US gov't has not yet figured out a way to effectively tax it. This type of bill just reinforces my thought. You are at a casino where casino employees can and will issue you the proper forms if you win too much at once, but on the intarweb, no one is there to monitor you.

^ this is a very good point.

Individual players could in theory declare their winnings (if they have any) on their income tax forms, but it's the taxes from the site operators that they're really missing out on.

wtf that is so bad, that would suck, i dont get y gambling of n e form should be illegal if u r of age to do so, that is ridiculous, gov't tryin to shape the way u can use ur money, now thats not freedom!!! i just think its completely stupid to make it a crime to gamble.

i think can control what we use our money for

ex. The government should stop common citizens from buying WMDs even though controlling their money use is not giving them freedom.

its ALL ABOUT TAX.
MA isn't making any money off of online poker. So what are they gonna do? BAN or TAX. this state is discussing 3 casino deals as far as i know. all with poker rooms. if they open up these casinos they know that if they ban online poker, players would be forced to play at these casinos. therefore, they could tax our earnings and make their penny. its all bull crap.
i moved into mass last january and bought a beautiful condo. had no problems. only after a few months, they tell you that you are required to have full medical coverage by november. result of not doing so they exempt you from a tax refund. they decide to pull this online poker crap. Now all of a sudden its cool to walk around vandalizing people's property left and right every day. the only positive thing thats happened in mass since i moved here is the sox winning the series. I'm seriously thinking about moving to Connecticut

OK, to start off, Stupid Barney Frank supports online gambling and even asked congress to support it. BUT he also supports this bill that has been put forward. This bill is to allow casinos in Massachusetts but cleverly sneaked in was to make online illegal. People can go to a store and buy one of the 80 different scratch tickets in this state and the state doesn't care if people lose their money on that. I don't care what happens, either way I am still going to play online.

Barney Frank DOES NOT support MA Gambling Bill

I want to make this clear first and foremost, Barney Frank does not support the new bill proposed by Governor Patrick, he has publicly stated that the bill that the Governor proposed has given "(his[Governor Patrick]) enemies the ammunition to battle against him" further saying the bill is "stupid". If that isn't an outright declaration of opposition, then I don't know what is?

We are making significant headway in this campaign. I'd like to thank those of you who have written letters and made phone calls, and urge those of you who have not to please do so now. I have provided a link in the first post I made to start this thread so that you can easily email all of the legislators in your area and the Governor with relative ease.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so writing a letter tomorrow! No way will I let Patrick ban online poker. See-I told everyone NOT to vote for Patrick, but it fell on deaf ears! Seeing as they're planning on building a casino in MA, banning online gaming seems a total hypocricy!!

It is not a hypocracy. It is in their interests.

And I predict your letter will have no effect because you no longer have the POWER that was supposed to be had in DEMOcracy.

Demo means people
cracy means rule

Democracy literally, (and historically), means rule of the people!

We have now, in the age of ultimate information dissemination, arrived at the same tiime with the most sophisticated tools for propaganda ever invented.

JessieBear,
if I don't see that,
if you don't see that,
how then can there be a flame out of this spark?

Difference of Opinion

As stated earlier when I began this thread, I am the Massachusetts Director for the Poker Players Alliance. Over the past several weeks I have been in constant contact with many legislators throughout Massachusetts regarding H.4307; (Governor Patrick's proposed Casino bill) and I am happy to report that every single legislator that I have spoken with is vehemently opposed to the section of the bill which would criminalize internet poker.

Several thousand letters have been sent to various MA legislators regarding this bill, as well as over 5,000 phone calls have been made to Governor Patricks office in opposition to the bill. Now, it may seem like all of this is falling on deaf ears, but I assure you that the power of numbers DOES work!

I have made it my personal mission to ensure that the voices of MA PPA members (and even non-PPA internet poker player's) are being heard. Our position is clear on this issue and we are making a difference. Those who feel that it won't make a difference to write letters or call your local legislators simply don't understand that if we make enough of a fuss, our local reps and senators will have very little choice except to seek an exemption of the very specific language in the bill that would otherwise criminalize online poker.

We ARE making an impact!!! I receive in the neighborhood of 100 emails and 15-20 phone calls per day from people who want to know what they can do to help, and my standard answer is this; write letters to everyone and anyone who represents our legislative voices. Call your local reps and senators as well as the Governors office [see below](and express your concern. Educate yourself about the proposed bill and follow the stories in the media pertaining to it. Our best defense is a rigid and unwielding offense!

Massachusetts State House
Office of the Governor
Office of the Lt. Governor
Room 360
Boston, MA 02133
Phone: 617.725.4005
888.870.7770 (in state)

I assure you that we can AND WILL make a difference if we fight this legislation as though our very lives depended on it.

In an effort to demonstarte that our voices ARE BEING HEARD, I am providing a link to a Boston Globe article that was picked up by the Associated Press and ultimately made National news. The story has also been covered by numerous televison news stations here in Boston:

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massach...t_bets_illegal/

It is important to note that until the section of the proposed bill was discovered, it was buried so DEEP in the overall bill that it was lucky that we caught it in time to act on it. Had this gone unnoticed, chances are it may have just slipped right through the cracks because it was so vague. By exposing it and bringing attention to it, we have given ourselves the much needed attention to our plight that we so desperately needed.

Thank you all for the letter writing, and phone call campaigns. THEY ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!!! As proof that they are making a difference, I'll offer this statement from Massachusetts Senator Stephen Brewer (D-Barre):

"All of the legislators I have spoken with are extremely impressed with your (PPA Organization and members) efforts and passion about this topic. If the democratic process is to work properly here, and I'm confident that it will in this instance, then all of your persistent efforts will ultimately pay off in the end."

Senator Brewer supports our plight and further added that he will demand that the language criminalizing internet poker will have to be removed before he supports any other part of the bill.

I'm sure you'll agree that this is a positive step in the right direction.

All In,

Randy C~

WAIT OFFICER I'M IN A HUGE POT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ya know, Massachusetts is so screwed up that they have better things they should be worrying about, such as the gang shootings and robberies, the drugs on the streets, trying to fix the streets instead of helping fraudulent welfare and disability cases , I know plenty who don't need to be on it. If I win and pay my taxes then there is nothing they can do about it. If I was a heroin addict, I could get free needles to shoot up but can't play online poker!?!? what the fu** is up with that?
