I play Poker Club On PS4 and sometimes when 2 players have the same hand, for example a straight.. We both had "J" in our hand I had a J 9 the other has a J6 and the pot was split.

Another hand we both has 3 A's I had A5 the other player had A9 and he won the pot. Why do some ties split the pot and some seem to play by the high card in hard?

poker hands are determined by your 5 best cards so when you both have a straight and both of your straights have the same 5 cards then it is a tie.

In your other example, yes you both had 3 Aces but you still have to consider the other 2 cards that make the best 5 card hand. These other cards are called "Kickers" and since your opponent had a 9 and you had a 5 with your Ace he was able to make a better hand with his 2 kickers if your best 5 cards included your "5" and his included his "9". He would have better kickers and so he wins the hand.

Hope that helps.

As stated above best 5 card hand. Any additional cards are irrelevant. In holdem it does not matter where the 5 cards come from you can use all 5 board cards & discard your down cards, use 4 board & 1 from hand or 3 board & 2 from your hand. Also in hold em suit does not matter in deciding the hand. You will figure it out quickly enough, but, for a better answer to questions like these it's helpful if you can show your & your opponents hole cards & all 5 board cards.

In the other hand, we both had 3 aces. I had T5, the other player had T9, and he won the pot. Why do some have a draw splitting the pot, and some play on the highest card in hard?
My advice to you is to read the poker training course before the game, at least the rules...

In such situations, play with play money to become familiar with the game rules. More experience with the game is needed.

It's because to know what hand is the better, we have to compare the best 5 combination cards of 7 available cards (5 community cards and 2 holy cards). So when two players hit a top pair, we have to consider all best 5 cards avaiable for each players involved in that hand.

By the same way, times ago, I had KK and went all in, the villain called and had A2o. On table came JJJJX and I lost. Because the best combination were on the table using 4 cards and our best only one card defined the result. My best 5 cards were JJJJK and his best cards were JJJJA.

For example on the next hand, the best 5 cards combination, for all players, are on the table (a straight flush), so this is a case of split pot for the three players.

In the next example, The best 5cards combination for one player is KK77A (2 pairs, Ace kicker) and for the other player too.

But if we had a 2 instead of A on the table, The combination for one player would have been KK779 and the other player would have KK77J and would have won.

I hope my explanation be comprehensive and helpful.

I wonder how long have you been playing. After all, these are simple truths in the game. The fact is that I recalled how, after my first steps in poker, I was surprised by the decision in favor of the opponent on the next hand. A square fell on the table. I had a pocket pair with jacks and my opponent had an ace with some kind of card. The bank was given to the enemy because he has the fifth card higher than mine.

it depends on the hands

for example in your straight with j was the highest hand it ended in J then pot split so already in hands where the kiker will decide the pot will not be split for example if you have A3 and opponent has A9 table beats A26T4 then A9 wins for 9 be greater than 3

Greetings. This is a common situation in poker. Kicker game. Therefore, it is recommended not to play with garbage, even if one of the cards is good.

For the straight u look at the high card, if its the same, its a tie. For the second exemple, both got a set, so the next diferent card untie, for example, AAA98 villain and AAA85 hero, the 9 untie.

This was definitely a hard lesson i had to learn more than a few times (i lost money) So I think its cool that your mastering the game before actually putting any real money on the line! (When you lose money, you definitely want to know why, haha) I saw someone at a casino one time storm away from the table because he thought he lost the hand, the action was three-way on the river so they gave the pot to the next best hand, hahah... Thats live play though... I would recommend definitely getting this bit of knowledge down before playing for real cash tho. You want to know what beats what like the back of your hand! And without even thinking about it! When you know this, and you find yourself playing like you dont know it, then that may be a sign that youre overplaying or my be getting tired, need to eat, etc... The good news is, learning the statistics behind poker isnt any harder than taking Algebra 1 or 2 in high school :) ...

Good luck maN! :)

Thanks for your reply, To clear up something for some of the people who impied I must be new since learning about the kicker is a basic thing. I agree and I've been playing poker and Texas hold'em for several years and do okay at it.

In my original post I said this was a game on PS4, there are two issues with this game, one, they don't show the winning hand long enough and it is hard to read. They should show it longer and highlight the winning hand better.

There are also some bugs in the game I had a flush yesterday K high and they gave the win to another flush Q high both the K and Q were in out hands so that was a wrong call MY K should have won the hand since the A was in the flop.

So although I am not an expert I do know the rules well enough to do well, the miscalls in THIS game on PS4 is what made me question my knowledge about the hands.

Thanks again for everyone's replies

Well, this is no good. You sit down to play for money, not knowing not only the basics, but also the seniority of cards and combinations on the board. I recommend that you read at least the rules.

The key thing about what is and what is not a split pot is going back to basics. Hold’em is using your hole cards with the community cards to make your best 5 card hand.

If your second card which is the kicker is not higher than the board usually you will end up splitting or losing the hand.

It’s much more logical to ask yourself if I should have folded the cards before the flop, than why I lost my hand with kicker 3. We’ve lost hands countless times on AJ, AQ because of a smaller kicker card. I have a feeling you like to test almost every flop, and that often ends up as you described.

You're right I do like to test the flops and many times other platers go crazy bidding before the flop and with my hole cards I don't think it's worth staying in to see the flop.

There have been many times I would have won and many times I would have lost. Is there any good way to decide if and when to play the hold cards when they are bidding wild on the pre flop.
