Hobby that I enjoy on the side. I couldn't see myself turning this into a full time job. As a family man in the US $700 a month wouldn't come close to cutting it.

Unless you really don't like your current job, I advise you should not quit your job. Or you should play at least 1 or 2 year in your free time before making your decision. Trust me, poker is not easy to make money.

Completely different from a person to person basis. Where and how you live is so important here. Living in example New York or parts of California the cost of living is likely 3x as high if not higher than other parts of the country. How much money do you spend a month and feel comfortable. Make slightly above that and you should be good.

I study at a university and have been working remotely for the fourth year already. I think that in such cases, you can ideally combine work and poker until poker starts to bring really good income. In any case, if it is comfortable to have regular sources of income, then I would not want to refuse this)

I would quit my job if I could earn poker stably from $ 1000
To do this, I think we need a BR of about $ 10-15k so that you can play the more serious MTT and cash games.

You could have a negative pay check, then you are two months behind. How much time does poker take anyway? Keep the job dude.

I would have nothing to do with 700 per month, too much spending! And are you sure you're going to win poker every month? If you lose all the money you have today, where do you get other money to try to recover what you lost?

Like any business you need working capital, or a bankroll to fall back on for downswings. I would say you need to have 50-100 BBs of bankroll, and about 6 months of living expenses saved before you could even consider quitting your day job. What does that look like?

For me, if my wife and I were to divorce. For me to cover bills I would need about 2.2K-3K a month depending if I kept the house or not. 13.2K-18K in personal savings....

I'm making about 4K a month currently with everything I do. Since I can realisticly make about 5-7BBs per hour on avg. Without doing the math means that I would have to grind 1000NL 40 hour weeks to keep up with my income now. So I would need about 15K in my personal savings, and 50-100K in my working capital or bankroll to strictly play and keep the same level of income I currently have. Assuming there was a 1000NL game avaliable to play for 40 hours a week.

To stop working for the next 25 years would need at least 2 million dollars first as the cost of living is very high $700 a month you would end up homeless and starved unemployed people get lot more than that on unemployment welfare payments.:)

700 a month

As others have said it depends on where you live. For me to keep my current standard of living I would need 6 times that amount.

Keep your job at least that is steady income and start putting away all you can so one day you can use what you make at poker as a "fun money" fund.

Good luck all :D

It depends on how much you need to live ot your life level.
US$5000 / month of profit is an aim.

Depends on your living wage and average salary in your country. And you can’t immediately quit work. You need to have a stock of money as insurance against bankruptcy. And it will not be easy.

It depends from country you live and also if you have family to live with. If yes, you need more than 700$ per month in many countries I think

Depends of what job do you have and how much money do you need per month to live well, I would never quit my job for $700/month. Also you need to consider the poker variance. I guess only a huge tournament win would make me consider quitting my job..lol

Defenitely not. We must remember this is poker. This is gambling game. You can get bad series with no winnings. For me You must win some great tournament like sunday million to live free from poker.
