Drunk, of course, with good arguments (not the drunk kind of arguments with my wife, that never happens).
Even better if the session pays for the wine too. Sure it's cheap wine, maybe not even grape-wine (usually Port or Ginger wine) but what the hell! It's sweet and enjoyable, cheap and cheerful.
Can't wait to be rich and bathe in whisky!
The thing is that sobriety brings seriousness in a "stupid game of cards" and taking it seriously is, in my opinion, the wrong way to go about it. And it's not that I win or lose more when I'm sober, it's because my elevated awareness makes me realise what an idiot I am, in particular when I realise what a waste of my time it is to play for 1/2 cents a blind. Being drunk, takes all that worry and care away so I can focus on the game, no matter the ridiculous stake or lack of proper money I have, so I can enjoy every cent I win (usually). Moreover, the following day, no matter how much I have won or lost, I won't remember and won't even notice (therefore not get angry at myself when I see the same number, more or less) the difference in cents or dollars. Keeps the fun in the game, they said.
Guess it wouldn't be a great idea to play proper poker, drunk against real poker players as it's a loss-loss (of finances and consciousness) situation. But in my poor situation, it's worth it.
There are probably more reasons why I believe it's better drunk and I welcome everyone who would like to add to the list of "advantages".
Stop judging! Just enjoy a glass or two.
Life's too short to worry, have a drink, make it shorter. Be a man!
