Hello everybody!

I've been playing poker for a few months and really enjoy the chance to hang out with friends at home games.

I was wondering if anybody has made their own tables? If so, what tips, ideas, dimensions or other things you added or wish you could have at a table?

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Are you sure you want to build table right away? ;) You can find a lot of table tops (you just put it on top of regular table), we use one with friends and its fine enough.

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...ds=poker+table+top&rh=i:aps,k:poker+table+top

(not sure you are from US, but it shouldn't be hard to find something similar)

Think of how many people you expect to fit around and make sure there is enough space for everyone.
Look at the dimensions on the commercial tables as shown in link above, normally they are made for 6,8 or 9 to 10 players.

I built my tables using ideas from the web. My suggestion would be to use speed cloth, cards slide really nice.

Thanks for the replies!

My reasoning for building my own was just for the sake of having a project for the summer.

As others have mentioned above, think most about how many people you want it to be for and how you intend to use it.

If you've got more than say 8 players then you probably want a racetrack format table. Keep in mind though, racetrack tables are great when you've got one permanent dealer who gets to sit in the middle, but they're terrible for games where dealing responsibilities get passed around each hand (players at either end can't reach to gather bets, people have to stand up to see a flop that's at the other end of the table, etc).

If you're self-dealing then a smaller table, either round or an octagon, is a better way to go.

Got mine through amazon, nice table tops. Don't have the skills, patience or insurance to try to build my own.

As mentioned above if everyone deals I am all for a round table. I really dislike racetrack tables even though that is mostly what I play on because I play at mostly casino an dog track rooms not home games. Idea,,,a table that converts from round to racetrack.

P.S. I must really hate race track tables live, I am currently in my room at the Beau Rivage playing online instead of at the poker room downstairs hehehe :)

A couple friends have bought the table top one's like shown above from amazon. They work really well and are relatively inexpensive.

For my homes games, my friends and I decided to take a small percentage of each prize pool and put it away to buy a table. When we got close to enough for a table we all chipped in $50 and bought a good quality 8' race track table. It was well worth the investment.
